Position Summary:

The Admissions Counselor and Recruiter at Campbell University’s Jerry M. Wallace School of Osteopathic Medicine (CUSOM) supports the full admissions cycle by engaging with prospective students, reviewing applications, and coordinating admissions events and outreach initiatives.

Under the direction of the Director of Admissions, the Admissions Counselor and Recruiter serves as a key point of contact for prospective students—providing advisement, responding to inquiries, and ensuring a positive applicant experience. Responsibilities include conducting application reviews and participating in virtual and in-person recruitment events. Outreach efforts require occasional travel to select colleges, universities, professional fairs, and national conferences.

The Admissions Counselor and Recruiter will work closely with the Director of Admissions to develop recruitment strategies and to plan and implement admissions and outreach events.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Advise prospective students on the admissions process, requirements, and how to become competitive applicants through in-person meetings, virtual sessions, phone calls, email, and recruitment events.
  • Clearly communicate information about CUSOM’s mission, prerequisite coursework, GPA and MCAT expectations, letters of recommendation, clinical experience, and other admissions criteria.
  • Remain current on new campus offerings, policies, and procedures; effectively communicate updates to prospective applicants.
  • Maintain consistent communication with prospective students and pre-health advisors regarding recruitment opportunities, events, and campus visits. Responsibilities include coordinating registration for recruitment events, as well as arranging travel and accommodations (e.g., flights, car rentals, and hotel reservations) for overnight or long-distance trips.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with Campbell University’s Undergraduate pre-health departments, other college/university pre-health advisors, and career counselors; Responsible for maintaining an accurate and up-to-date contact list.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Admissions to implement and support CUSOM’s recruitment strategy through outreach, event planning, and prospective student engagement initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain communication with prospective applicants and pre-health advisors regarding recruitment opportunities and on-campus visits.
  • Assist admissions staff with organizing, planning, and executing innovative on and off-campus recruiting events geared toward undergraduate, graduate, and professional students.
  • Develop and continuously improve recruitment presentations and innovative strategies to enhance student recruitment and retention efforts on and off campus.
  • Assist with recruitment and advising efforts for Campbell University’s Undergraduate Early Assurance Pathway (EAP) and Campbell University’s JD/DO Dual Degree Program.
  • Attend national conferences to support personal development, such as NAAHP, AACOM, and OMED.
  • Submit a monthly report of recruitment activities and visits to the Director of Admissions and maintain up-to-date calendars and travel logs for all recruitment visits and events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned; may require involvement in admissions processes beyond that required of other support staff members.
  • Participate in the Office of Student Affairs’ special events such as Accepted Students Day, Orientation, White Coat Ceremony, and Graduation.
  • Must be able to travel primarily throughout North Carolina and the Southeast U.S. and occasionally outside those target areas.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Ensure updated promotional items and giveaways are stocked and readily available for recruitment events.
  • Maintain professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
  • Other duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.
  • Uphold and abide by Campbell University policies and procedures, including, but not limited to: Title IX, HIPAA, and FERPA guidelines.


Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required.
  • Recruiting, student services, office management, academic advising required.
  • Previous admissions, sales and/or marketing experience preferred.
  • Experience in a higher education or non-profit sector is also preferred.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively to all groups through both oral and written channels.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and attention to detail are essential.
  • Ability to respond calmly and appropriately in emotional situations.
  • Ability to listen and communicate in a positive manner.
  • Must be proficient in word processing and computer usage experience.
  • Must be proficient in virtual platforms, such as Zoom, and Blackboard Collaborate.
  • Ability to collaborate and interact with health care professionals.
  • Ability to organize, direct, and prioritize work appropriately.
  • Ability to manage time well and work under stressful conditions with an even temperament.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and the Internet
  • The ability to demonstrate tact, courtesy and discretion in dealing with faculty, staff, students, high-level university officials and the public.
  • Ability to work independently as well as function effectively in a team and within a diverse group of people.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgments in complex and new situations.
  • Ability to manage multiple, concurrent projects, and still meet strict deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented and willing to work in a changing environment including researching new ways of accomplishing tasks, participating in training sessions, being a self-starter and a team player, and willingness to assist in other areas as needed.
  • Broad knowledge of Campbell University policies and procedures.
