Adult Basic Education – Science and Mathematics Instructor

Objective: Provides foundational mathematics and science instruction for adult learners in preparation for HSE and/or post-secondary education. In coordination with the Education Coordinator, facilitates lessons using Saranam curriculum and maintains a safe learning environment supportive of adult student educational progress during the first semester of Saranam educational programming. Collaborates with staff, volunteers, and other instructors to support student needs.

Status: This is a contract position beginning in November 2025 (as soon as the campus opens) through April 2026, with the possibility of further assignments on a per semester basis. Saranam observes the APS holiday schedule.

Essential Functions

1. Facilitate Saranam lesson plans in coordination with Director of Education and other Saranam instructors and guest speakers, M/T/Th/Fri (8:30am – 10:25am).

2. Maintain safe and secure learning environment that supports learning and relationship building.

3. Assess individual student progress in coordination with the Education coordinator.

4. Communicate effectively with Saranam clients and staff.

5. Participate in meetings.

6. Manage classroom behavior according to Saranam guidelines and rubric.

7. Promote development and effective application of critical thinking, communication, self-reflection, problem-solving, and decision-making.

Qualifications:

· Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution

· Experience with different teaching/tutoring strategies, including lecture, discussion, collaborative learning, differentiated instruction, and technology-supported instruction.

· Experience teaching/tutoring science and math courses at the secondary or post-secondary level.

· Experience working with a nontraditional and diverse population.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

· Ability to use MS Office, familiarity with Windows. Experience with Google Classroom preferred.

Desired:

Knowledge of the effects and impacts of poverty, homelessness, substance abuse, domestic violence, trauma, and recovery.

Job Type: Contract

Pay: $40.00 per hour

Schedule:

· 8:30am – 10:25am, Mon/Tue/Thu/Fri @ ADC Family Campus (Westside)

Work Location: Classes are held in-person in the dedicated Saranam Classroom.
