Objective:

Provides foundational life skills instruction for adult learners designed to assist students to become a more effective communicator. Being a leader of a family and a leader at work requires students to develop skills that are practiced daily. The lessons during this first semester class are focused on exploring basic communication principles in interpersonal relationships. Topics include: basic principles of communication, styles of communication, team building, problem solving, and conflict resolution. During each class session, students will practice their communication skills through active listening and discussion, as we explore different facets and contexts of communication. Students will be given opportunities to identify community values, clarify meaning, and explore different strategies and approaches to confrontation and conflict. In coordination with the Education Coordinator, this instructor facilitates lessons using Saranam curriculum and maintains a safe learning environment supportive of adult student educational progress during the first semester of Saranam educational programming. The instructor will collaborate with staff, volunteers, and other instructors to support student needs.  

Status: This is a contract position for May 2026 through August 2026, with the possibility of further assignments on a per semester basis. Saranam observes the APS holiday schedule.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead the Saranam class using provided lesson plans on Fridays from 1-4pm on the ADC Family Campus.
  • Maintain safe and secure learning environment that supports learning and relationship building.
  • Assess individual student progress in coordination with the Education Coordinator.
  • Communicate effectively with Saranam clients and staff.
  • Participate in instructor meetings.
  • Manage classroom behavior according to Saranam guidelines and rubric.
  • Promote development and effective application of critical thinking, communication, self-reflection, problem-solving, and decision-making.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution.
  • Experience with different teaching/tutoring strategies, including lecture, discussion, collaborative learning, differentiated instruction, and technology-supported instruction.
  • Experience leading/facilitating discussions and/or teaching classes.
  • Experience working with a nontraditional and diverse population.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries.
  • Ability to use MS Office, familiarity with Windows. Experience with Google Classroom preferred.

Job Type: Contract

Pay: $40.00 per hour

Schedule: 1:00-4:00pm Fridays @ ADC Family Campus (Montano Rd/Taylor Ranch)

Work Location: Classes are held in-person in the dedicated Saranam Classroom.
