General Summary:
The Adult Services / Lead Librarian is a full-time, non-union, non-exempt, 40-hour, 52 week per year position that oversees the library’s budget, physical materials, programs, and staff, ensuring all operations follow the policies set by the Board of Library Trustees. This position works closely with the Trustees as both an advisor and active contributor in developing policies, preparing and managing the budget, setting goals, planning services, and evaluating outcomes.
In addition to providing direct service to patrons, this role carries broader operational, technology, and reporting responsibilities under the Library’s updated organizational structure. The position focuses on delivering high-quality, forward-thinking services, maintaining strong financial oversight, and integrating technology to enhance both in-person and online patron experiences.
Supervision Received:
Works under the policy direction of the Board of Trustees and exercises independent judgment in daily operations in accordance with Town and Board of Library Trustees’ policies and New Hampshire library standards.
Supervision Exercised:
Supervises all library personnel and provides guidance, training, and oversight of all Library staff, aides, and other personnel as assigned, following all Town and Board of Library Trustees’ policies, procedures and applicable RSAs.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities – Adult Services Librarian:
· Provides professional adult reference, readers’ advisory, and research assistance
· Manages and maintains a current and relevant adult circulating and reference collection, recommending new titles for acquisition to Trustees as well as books to be weeded
· Develops and evaluates adult programs, including ticketed or fee-based offerings
· Recognizes digital usage and online participation as core measures of patronage, and maintains supporting resources and equipment
· Oversees circulation services and interlibrary loan activities
· Maintains and advances the Library’s website and digital platforms
· Demonstrates leadership in responsible AI adoption to enhance services and efficiency
· Coordinates services with Youth Services staff
· Represents the Library professionally within the community
· Responsible for public relations and promoting library programs and resources
· Perform any other duties as needed and assigned by the Board of Library Trustees.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities – Lead Librarian:
· Acts as Library’s administrative officer
· Personnel Management: Responsible for day-to-day staff management including, but not limited to, scheduling, training, coaching, payroll management, and recruitment; coordinates, facilitates, and if requested, participates in formal evaluation and discipline of workforce; recommends the appointment of all employees;
· Oversee and support front desk duties as needed
· Manage all fines, fees, donations, overdue notices and reports, memorial donations, etc.
· Correspond with patrons and informs Trustees of needs
· Manage and order library supplies, processing/cataloging all purchases
· Coordinate with the bookkeeper to collect and submit receipts and support accurate financial records
· Prepare monthly operational and financial summary reports for the Trustees
· Work with the Board of Library Trustees and the bookkeeper to create and manage an annual budget for the Town of Raymond warrant article
· Develops and enforces internal financial and compliance controls
· Embraces digital usage metrics and online participation as core measures of patronage, and maintains supporting resources and equipment;
· Recommends, manages, and implements changes, improvements, and initiatives to the library subject to the Trustees’ approval and direction Recommend updates to policies and procedures to the Trustees, and implement changes approved by the Trustees
· Provides supporting documents to the Trustees and attends Board of Trustees meetings as needed
· Maintains and advances Library’s website and digital platforms
· Perform any other administrative duties as needed and assigned by the Board of Library Trustees.
· Demonstrates leadership in responsible AI adoption to enhance services and efficiency
· Coordinates services with Youth Services staff
· Represents the Library professionally and tactfully within the community
· Responsible for public relations and promoting library programs and resources
· Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
· Education: Batchelor’s Degree.
· Experience: Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible experience in library operations. (Equivalent education and experience may be considered in accordance with New Hampshire library guidance.)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
· Communication and organizational skills
· Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
· Technology experience and/or knowledge of library driven technology services.
· Experience in long-range planning, budget development and management.
· Financial awareness sufficient for reporting and budget aligned operations
· Knowledge of RSA 202 and Dudley Tucker Library policies as established by the Board of Library Trustees.
Pay: $45,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
