The Orlando Health Children’s Heart Institute is seeking a Full-time Pediatric Cardiac ICU Advanced Practice Provider to join their devoted team. The position requires shift coverage to include days, nights, and weekends to meet the needs of the unit and patient care requirements. Our 20 bed Pediatric CICU is staffed by dedicated cardiac intensivists, advanced practice providers, advanced practice provider fellows, physician fellows, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacist, dietician, social worker, and chaplain. The Children’s Heart Institute is comprised of a dedicated, multidisciplinary team that works together to provide extraordinary care to patients with congenital and acquired heart disease.
Join our dynamic Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU) team as an Advanced Practice Provider (APP), where your expertise will directly impact the lives of our most vulnerable patients, children with complex cardiac conditions. Responsibilities
- Provide advanced clinical assessment, diagnosis, and management for pediatric patients in the cardiac ICU, including performing physical examinations and vital signs monitoring.
- Administer and oversee complex treatments such as IV infusions, ventilator management, catheterizations, and tube feeding protocols.
- Collaborate with cardiologists and surgeons on diagnostic evaluations like echocardiography, sonography, and cardiac catheterization procedures.
- Assist with critical interventions including airway management, spinal taps, suturing, and sterile processing techniques.
- Lead patient triage and coordinate care plans for acute pain management, infection control, and post-operative recovery.
- Document all patient interactions accurately using EMR systems such as Epic or Cerner while ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Participate in clinical research initiatives to improve pediatric cardiac outcomes and contribute to quality improvement projects within the unit.
Qualifications
- Master’s or Doctorate degree in Nursing (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) certification with current licensure in good standing.
- Demonstrated proficiency with EMR/EHR systems including Epic.
- Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, diagnostic evaluation techniques, and medication administration specific to pediatric cardiac patients.
- Hands-on experience with invasive procedures like intubation, venipuncture, IV insertion, and sterile technique.
- Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and families.
- Additional desirable skills include experience with gastrostomy tube care, dialysis management, assisted living or home care settings for children with complex needs, and familiarity with neurodevelopmental considerations
