Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) – SUD Partial Care & Outpatient Programs (Freehold & Piscataway, NJ)

Position Summary

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) to provide psychiatric services and clinical support across two Partial Care Programs in Freehold, NJ and Piscataway, NJ, as well as our Outpatient Program in Freehold, NJ. This hybrid position requires at least three (3) days per week in person between the program locations.

The APN will provide services within the full scope of Advanced Practice Nursing in New Jersey, including psychiatric evaluations, medication management visits, and ongoing clinical oversight, for adults with co-occurring Substance Use Disorders and Mental Health diagnoses. The APN will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality, compliant, and evidence-based care.

Key Responsibilities

Psychiatric & Medical Services

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations for new admissions and ongoing reassessments.
  • Provide routine and as-needed medication management visits.
  • Prescribe and monitor psychotropic medications and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) in accordance with NJ regulations and best practices.
  • Assess medical and psychiatric stability and make appropriate referrals when indicated.
  • Monitor lab work and coordinate care with primary care providers and specialists as needed.

Clinical Oversight (Within APN Scope)

  • Participate in treatment planning and interdisciplinary case conferences.
  • Offer clinical consultation to counselors, therapists, and nursing staff regarding psychiatric and medication-related concerns.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives and ensure adherence to evidence-based treatment standards.

Regulatory Compliance & Documentation

  • Complete timely and compliant documentation of psychiatric evaluations, medication management encounters, and progress notes.
  • Ensure compliance with New Jersey Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) standards, Medicaid/insurance requirements, and applicable NJ and federal regulations.
  • Practice in accordance with NJ Board of Nursing scope of practice requirements for Advanced Practice Nurses.
  • Maintain prescriptive authority and CDS registration as required under NJ law.

What We’re Looking For

Required

  • Active, unrestricted New Jersey APN/APRN license
  • Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner certification
  • Active NJ CDS and DEA registration
  • Experience conducting psych evaluations and medication management
  • Experience working with co-occurring SUD and mental health populations
  • Strong understanding of NJ regulatory and documentation standards

Preferred

  • Experience in Partial Care, Day Treatment, or Outpatient behavioral health settings
  • Familiarity with ASAM Criteria and MAT protocols
