Position summary
The Advanced Practice Provider collaborates with the physician and other health care professionals to provide medical services including direct patient care, medical record documentation and follow-up care to inpatients and outpatients. The Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner operates within the standards of care and scope of practice as defined by the State of Wisconsin
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Performs comprehensive and interval history and physical exams of patients with acute and chronic gastrointestinal problems. Identifies differential diagnoses, assesses the severity of the patient's illness and establishes priorities of care for the presenting problem

Assists in the development of a treatment plan and appropriate follow up care

Communicates pertinent patient information to the covering physician

Educates the patient about the diagnosis and treatment plan
-
Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests
-
Exercises prescriptive authority as outlined in Wisconsin statutes
-
Documents patient visit appropriately in the electronic medical record (EMR) and/or according to the guidelines established by each individual location in which the care is provided

Maintains patient confidentiality per HIPPA requirements

Assists with percutaneous gastrostomy (PEG) tube placements
-
Keeps current on new knowledge gained from conferences, workshops, professional literature, or other training and assimilates this knowledge into clinical practice
Minimum Requirements
-
Graduate of an accredited NP or PA program
-
Nurse Practitioners: current license or eligible for licensure to practice as an Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber in Wisconsin (as defined in Chapter N 6.03 a-d of the Wisconsin Administrative Code)

Physician Assistants: must be NCCPA (National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants) certified or eligible; and licensed or eligible for licensure by the Medical Examining Board(s) in Wisconsin

Desired Qualifications

Previous gastroenterology experience preferred but not required.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

DEA license

Working knowledge of gastrointestinal anatomy, physiology and disease processes.
