Maverick Medical is an independently owned, single-physician family medicine practice in Bakersfield, CA. Our pace is fast and our patients are loyal — we're looking for a provider who wants to grow with us long term, not just fill a shift.

The role

We are seeking a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to contract with us on a flexible, variable schedule — approximately 2 days per week. This is a 1099 independent contractor position. We contract with providers operating through their own LLC or S-Corp. You'll work alongside our physician in a fast-paced, bread-and-butter family medicine environment handling acute visits, chronic disease management, wellness exams, and everything in between.

What you'll do

• See patients independently for acute and chronic care visits
• Manage common primary care conditions (HTN, DM, hyperlipidemia, URTI, etc.)
• Conduct annual wellness exams and preventive screenings
• Order and interpret labs, imaging, and diagnostics
• Prescribe medications in accordance with CA NP/PA scope of practice
• Collaborate with our physician and support staff
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the EHR

Requirements

• Active CA NP or PA license (required)
• DEA license or eligibility to obtain one
• Must operate under your own LLC or S-Corp (required for 1099 contracting)
• Family medicine or primary care experience preferred
• Comfortable in a fast-paced, high-volume outpatient setting
• Strong communicator who genuinely enjoys patient relationships
• Active malpractice insurance under your business entity

Schedule & compensation

• Variable schedule — approximately 2 days per week, days/hours flexible
• $70/hr
• 1099 — invoiced through your LLC or S-Corp
• Opportunity to expand hours as the practice grows

Pay: From $70.00 per hour
