Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, including physical examinations and vital signs, to inform diagnosis and treatment plans.
- Manage complex oncology cases by developing and implementing individualized care strategies aligned with current guidelines.
- Administer treatments such as IV infusions, botulinum toxin therapy, dermal fillers, and other esthetic laser treatments with precision and safety.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other specialists to coordinate care and facilitate clinical research initiatives.
- Perform procedures including suturing, spinal taps, catheterizations, and venipuncture while maintaining sterile technique standards.
- Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems like Epic or eClinicalWorks for accurate documentation of patient encounters and medical records.
- Provide patient education on disease processes, medication administration, pain management options, nutrition, and lifestyle modifications.
- Participate in triage activities via telehealth or in-person settings to prioritize urgent needs and streamline patient flow.
- Assist with discharge planning, case management, and utilization review to optimize post-treatment outcomes.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations and ensure all medical documentation adheres to NCQA standards.
Qualifications
- Current licensure as an Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA) with certification in oncology or related specialties preferred.
- Demonstrated experience working within hospital medicine, emergency medicine, or critical care environments such as ICU or Level I Trauma Centers.
- Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems including Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth for comprehensive medical documentation.
- Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, diagnostic evaluation techniques such as sonography or laboratory testing (e.g., ICD coding/10).
- Experience administering IV infusions, injections, dermal fillers, Botox treatments, and performing minor procedures like suturing or spinal taps.
- Familiarity with oncology-specific treatments including chemotherapy management and symptom control strategies.
- Excellent patient assessment skills combined with compassionate communication tailored for diverse populations including pediatrics, geriatrics, memory care patients or those with developmental disabilities.
- Ability to work effectively in outpatient clinics or inpatient settings such as neonatal units (PICU), post-acute care facilities or hospice environments.
- Knowledge of Workers' Compensation law and occupational health protocols is advantageous.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in medical records management and CPT coding practices.
