Position Summary
The Pain Management Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA) supports high-quality, efficient care for patients with acute and chronic musculoskeletal, spine, and neurological pain conditions. Working collaboratively with pain management physicians, orthopedic and spine specialists, and the clinical care team, the APP performs patient evaluations, coordinates treatment plans, manages follow-up care, and supports interventional and noninterventional pain management services. This role plays a critical part in improving patient access, continuity of care, functional outcomes, and overall patient experience.
This is a part-time position (24 hours per week) in the outpatient setting.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Assessment & Patient Management
Interventional & Procedural Support
Assist with or independently perform (as credentialed) pain management procedures such as injections and related interventions.
Conduct preprocedural evaluations, consent discussions, and post procedure follow-up visits.
Monitor patients for complications and address post procedure concerns promptly.
Provide patient education regarding procedures, expectations, risks, and recovery.
Care Coordination & Continuity
Coordinate referrals to physical therapy, behavioral health, imaging, surgical services, or specialty providers as appropriate.
Collaborate closely with orthopedic surgeons, spine specialists, and referring providers to align treatment plans.
Ensure timely follow-up on diagnostics, procedures, and clinical recommendations.
Support transitions of care for preoperative, postoperative, and long-term pain patients.
Documentation, Compliance & Quality
Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation.
Support quality improvement initiatives related to pain outcomes, patient safety, and access to care.
Adhere to regulatory standards, prescribing guidelines, and pain management best practices.
Uphold all privacy, safety, ethics, and compliance standards.
Team Collaboration & Education
Work collaboratively with physicians, nursing staff, therapists, and administrative teams.
Participate in care planning discussions, clinical huddles, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Educate patients and staff on pain management strategies, treatment options, and expectations.
Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
Current Texas licensure as an NP or PA.
National certification (AANP/ANCC for NP or NCCPA for PA).
BLS required; ACLS and additional certifications preferred.
Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience preferred; pain management, orthopedic, or spine experience highly valued.
Strong clinical judgment, communication, and documentation skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast paced outpatient specialty practice.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended clinic hours.
Occasional lifting with assistance as required for patient care activities.
Exposure to clinical environments including procedures, imaging, and patient care settings.
Ability to work extended or adjusted hours based on clinic schedules and patient needs.
