Advanced Practice Registered Nurse - APRN

Schedule: Monday - Friday, Hours may vary

Pay: Based on experience

SUMMARY:

The Psychiatric Mental Health Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (PMH APRN) provides comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and medication management services to children, adolescents, and/or adults in an outpatient behavioral health setting. The APRN works collaboratively with an interdisciplinary treatment team to deliver evidence based, trauma informed, and person centered care.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments, including diagnostic evaluations and risk assessments
  • Diagnose mental health disorders in accordance with DSM 5 TR criteria
  • Prescribe, manage, and monitor psychotropic medications within scope of practice and state regulations
  • Provide ongoing medication management and follow up care
  • Monitor treatment response, side effects, adherence, and overall clinical progress
  • Provide psychoeducation to clients and caregivers regarding diagnoses, medications, and treatment options

Treatment Planning & Collaboration

  • Collaborate with therapists and other providers to develop and update individualized treatment plans
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and case consultations, as requested
  • Coordinate care with primary care providers, schools, and other external systems as appropriate
  • Refer clients to higher levels of care when clinically indicated

Documentation & Compliance

  • Complete timely, accurate, and thorough clinical documentation in the electronic health record (EHR)
  • Maintain compliance with agency policies, state and federal regulations, and payer requirements
  • Adhere to ethical standards and professional scope of practice
  • Participate in quality assurance and utilization review activities as required
  • This is a safety sensitive position.

QUALITY ASSURANCE & COMPLAINCE:

To adhere to the following and comply with all Quality Assurance’s & HIPAA procedures:

  • The Code of Conduct and Compliance Investigation Procedures as read and discussed in the new employee training must be followed at all times.
  • Consumers’ progress notes be maintained and completed daily or as needed on the prescribed forms.
  • Consumers’ records must be maintained weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly. All information must be filed in consumers’ records as needed and updated as prescribed by funding sources.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing from an accredited program
  • Current APRN license in the state of Arkansas
  • Board certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP BC)
  • DEA registration (or ability to obtain)
  • Eligible for credentialing with Medicaid, Medicare, and commercial insurers

Preferred

  • Experience in outpatient behavioral health settings
  • Knowledge of trauma informed care and evidence based psychiatric treatment
  • Experience working within interdisciplinary treatment teams

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental relations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of Program Administrators, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to compute drug dosages.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
