The Advancement Manager is a senior-level leadership role tasked with spearheading and supervising the comprehensive advancement initiatives of the organization. This multifaceted role guides the advancement team in the areas of marketing, public relations and development. The Advancement Manager works with the advancement team to strengthen internal and external understanding of the organization’s identity and impact, and to inform, engage and influence key audiences. The Advancement Manager will serve as the supervisor for a team consisting of a Marketing Coordinator, Donor Relations and Events Coordinator and contracted grant writer. This position plays a pivotal role in ensuring the organization's success in aligning with and executing Senior Life Resources strategic plan, as well as upholding its mission, vision, and values.

Key Responsibilities:


Leadership and Management:

  • Lead, mentor, and manage the advancement team, fostering collaboration and a high-performance culture.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Marketing Coordinator, Donor Relations and Events Coordinator, and part-time grant writer.
  • Supervises, sets clear objectives, expectations, and KPIs for the team members, coaches and regularly evaluates their performance.
  • Ensure staff members have the tools needed to accomplish their jobs.
  • Track performance against marketing and development plans.
  • Communicate regularly with advancement team to strategize about stewardship, prospecting, proposals, and appeals; evaluate areas needing focus and growth.
  • Explore new ideas through professional growth opportunities.

Fundraising and Development:

  • Develop and implement fundraising strategies to secure financial support from donors, sponsors, and grantors.
  • Collaborate with the Special Event Coordinator and Meals on Wheels staff to foster and nurture relationships with major donors, foundations, and corporate partners.
  • Manage grant proposals and reports.
  • Explore new revenue streams and innovative fundraising techniques.


Marketing and Public Relations:

  • Oversee the development of marketing and PR campaigns to enhance the organization's brand and visibility.
  • Oversee the creation of compelling content, both online and offline, to engage and inform donors, sponsors, and the community.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Coordinator to maintain and expand the organization's digital presence.


Budget Management:

  • Develop and manage the advancement department's budget, ensuring resources are allocated effectively.
  • Monitor expenses and make necessary adjustments to achieve financial goals.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and ethical fundraising practices.
  • Work with the Finance Department to develop and monitor revenue projections and expense budgets for development functions.


Communication and Relationship Building

  • In partnership with the ED, maintain a networking presence in the communities served by SLR.
  • Stay current on trends in fundraising, grants and marketing that could benefit or affect SLR and its mission.
  • Participate in organization-wide activities and/or programs, as appropriate.
  • Adhere to the practices of confidentiality regarding donors, clients, families, and staff.
  • Have the ability to work evenings, weekends, or odd hours as necessary for events and programs.


Other

  • Perform other duties as assigned and special projects by the ED.


SLR reserves the right to modify, add, or remove duties and assign other duties as necessary, including working in other functional areas to cover absences or relief, to equalize work periods, or otherwise balance the workload.


Skills and Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated leadership and team management skills, with the ability to oversee multiple departments and priorities effectively
  • Proven success in fundraising, marketing, grant development, and donor engagement strategies
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a professional, collaborative approach
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage complex projects
  • Experience developing compelling development materials and content aligned with mission and brand
  • Knowledge of current trends in philanthropy, major giving, marketing, and nonprofit best practices
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams); experience with marketing software and donor databases preferred
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities to align advancement efforts with strategic goals
  • Ability to work independently and thrive as part of a dynamic, cross-functional team
  • Comfortable managing deadlines, shifting priorities, and working in a fast-paced environment
