Advisor, International Student Office
Reports to: Director, International Student Office
Total Base Pay Range: $25.00 - $28.00 Hourly
This position exists to:
Advise International students throughout their life cycle, under the direction of the Director and Assistant Manager of the International Student Office. Carry out services required to communicate, educate, and assist international students enrolled at Ensign College. In addition to fulfilling this purpose, the International Student Advisor continuously strives to bring about the mission of Ensign College, which is to develop capable and trusted disciples of Jesus Christ.
This is a part-time position, expected to work approximately 20-28 hours per week. Hours are scheduled in advance and may vary slightly based on semester/workload needs.
Requirements for Employment Eligibility:
- Membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
- Worthiness to hold and be worthy to hold a current temple recommend.
- Receive clearance from the Church Educational System Ecclesiastical Clearance Office.
- Strict adherence to company policies and procedures.
- Commitment to bring about the purposes of Ensign College.
- Reside in Utah and able to work in person at our downtown Salt Lake City campus.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident to serve as DSO as required by federal law
- Associate degree (or credits completed equivalent)
- 2 years of direct/related work experience (Previous experience in student advising, counseling, or teaching is strongly preferred)
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
- Excellent verbal, written, and cross-cultural communication skills
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
- Ability to acquire and maintain a working knowledge of college policies, international student laws, and applicable government regulations
- Experience with PeopleSoft or other student information system is preferred
- Experience in social media marketing and content creation
- Experience with SEVIS management and sunapsis experience is preferred
Essential Job Functions:
- Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) and enforce US Department of Homeland Security and US Department of State regulations and maintain immigration records.
- Provide accurate and compassionate advising for F-1 International students and their dependents throughout all phases of education process including pre-arrival, during the period of study, and through OPT/STEM OPT.
- Proactive in tracking, advising, and communicating with international students through the student life cycle.
- Works cooperatively with other departments in support of international student requests such as the Internship Office, Academics, and the Student Success Center, and other departments on campus as needed.
- Develop targeted communication to help students remain in compliance with government and school policies.
- Help manage and utilize sunapsis for the International Student Office.
- Assist in the creation and management of the International Student Instagram account
Skills & Abilities:
- Maintain confidentiality and handle matters with sensitivity and tact.
- Knowledge of current issues in higher education, international education, and immigration, as it impacts international students.
- Demonstrated experience understanding and managing highly regulated services in an environment of complex and sometimes ambiguous federal laws.
- Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of sunapsis software and skill in creating e-forms and other functions is preferred
