Affiliate Anatomy Instructor - Physician Associate Program

Position Overview
The Southwestern College Physician Associate (PA) Program seeks a qualified Adjunct Anatomy Instructor to teach a six‑credit‑hour graduate-level gross anatomy course during the spring semester of the program’s didactic year. This opportunity may be of particular interest to PhD anatomists, biomedical science faculty, or clinicians who teach anatomy within physical therapy, occupational therapy, medical, nursing, or other health professions programs.

The course emphasizes regional human anatomy with strong clinical correlations relevant to PA practice. The position includes both lecture and laboratory instruction. This is a part-time, non-tenure track position. Contract is renewed annually.

Laboratory Instruction
Laboratory instruction is delivered using advanced virtual dissection technology, including the Anatomage Table, along with anatomical models and medical imaging. The PA Program is also exploring the future development of a cadaver laboratory component depending on resources and national cadaver availability.

The laboratory component focuses on identification of anatomical structures, spatial relationships, cross‑sectional anatomy, and interpretation of medical imaging.

Course Structure

  • Six (6) credit hour graduate-level anatomy course
  • Offered during the spring semester
  • Approximately 12 hours per week instructional commitment (lecture and lab combined)
  • Includes written examinations and laboratory practical examinations
  • Strong emphasis on clinically relevant anatomy and imaging interpretation

Major Instructional Areas

  • Back and vertebral column
  • Thorax and cardiopulmonary anatomy
  • Abdominal organs and vasculature
  • Pelvis and perineum
  • Upper and lower limb anatomy
  • Head and neck anatomy
  • Cranial nerves and special senses
  • Clinical correlations and radiologic anatomy

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher in anatomy, biomedical sciences, or related field
  • Demonstrated expertise in human gross anatomy
  • Ability to teach anatomy at the graduate health professions level

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD or advanced degree in anatomy or closely related biomedical discipline
  • Teaching experience in anatomy at the undergraduate or graduate level
  • Experience teaching anatomy within health professions programs (PA, PT, OT, medical, nursing, or allied health)
  • Clinical experience in a healthcare profession
  • Experience with virtual dissection technology such as the Anatomage Table
  • Experience integrating clinical correlations and medical imaging into anatomy education

Appointment Details
This is a part-time, non-tenure track faculty appointment. Contract will be renewed annually. Each anatomy course carries six credit hours.

Preference will be given to candidates who are able to teach in person at the Southwestern College campus in Winfield, Kansas. Remote candidates will be considered based on qualifications and instructional needs of the program.

Compensation
Adjunct instructors are compensated on a per-course basis. Compensation includes course preparation, instruction, laboratory supervision, student assessment, and course administration responsibilities.

Compensation range: $10,000 – $14,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
