After School Chess Coach

Job Summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated After School Chess Coach to inspire young minds through the game of chess. In this role, you will lead engaging after-school sessions, fostering strategic thinking, problem-solving skills, and sportsmanship among students. Your energy and passion for teaching will create a positive learning environment that encourages children to develop their chess abilities while having fun. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact on students’ cognitive growth and confidence outside the classroom.

Since we are a startup company, the hours are roughly 1-5 hours a week. As we grow, the hours and pay will grow. This after-school chess program aims to provide services to various schools across Houston, ranging from elementary to high schools.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging chess lessons tailored to various age groups and skill levels during after-school programs
• Foster a welcoming, inclusive environment that encourages participation and teamwork among students
• Teach fundamental chess concepts, strategies, and rules in a clear and motivating manner
• Manage classroom activities efficiently, ensuring smooth transitions between instruction, practice, and games
• Monitor student progress, providing encouragement and constructive feedback to support individual growth
• Maintain organized lesson plans, attendance records, and progress reports for each session
• Communicate effectively with parents and school staff regarding student engagement and development

Requirements

• Prior experience in teaching or tutoring children in an educational or extracurricular setting
• Strong classroom management skills to maintain a positive learning environment
• Knowledge of chess rules, strategies, and teaching methods suitable for children
• Excellent communication skills to explain concepts clearly and motivate students
• Ability to work well with diverse groups of children and adapt lessons as needed
• Experience in childcare or working with students in an educational context is preferred
• Reliable, energetic, and passionate about fostering children's cognitive development through chess
