Job Overview:
Are you passionate about education and making a difference in the lives of children? As a Sub Program Leader at Middle Tree, you will independently lead a group of students in an after-school setting, acting as a positive adult role model, coach, and mentor. You will provide academic support, enrichment, and a safe, engaging environment for students, while promoting social-emotional growth and positive behavior. This role requires flexibility, patience, and a genuine interest in helping students succeed. This is an on-call position, meaning hours are not guaranteed and are based on daily program needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Independently lead a group of up to 20 students, maintaining high standards for behavior and safety through PBIS and other behavior management strategies.
- Provide homework assistance, academic enrichment, and physical activity using curriculum and materials provided.
- Create a fun, engaging, and inclusive environment that encourages psychological safety, belonging, and student motivation.
- Support students in making positive behavior choices and take disciplinary measures when appropriate.
- Assist with daily snack preparation, serving, and clean-up.
- Assist with daily set up and clean up to maintain a safe, clean, and orderly school or community site.
- Engage students by following, implementing, and assisting in creating lesson plans.
- Promote positive interactions between students, volunteers, and staff.
- Maintain student safety by taking roll, reviewing sign-in/sign-outs, and monitoring site activities.
- Identify student needs and communicate with Site Leads, school administration, parents, and volunteers as appropriate.
- Participate in professional development, training sessions, and team meetings.
- Complete administrative tasks as needed, including maintaining attendance records and preparing materials.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in education or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 48 college semester or 60 quarter units and/or ability to pass a basic skills assessment in Math and English.
- Previous experience working with TK-8 students in educational or tutoring settings.
- Knowledge of academic subjects, enrichment activities, social-emotional learning (SEL), and PBIS strategies.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to build rapport with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for student growth and success.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be available at least 2 days a week (Monday–Friday), with program hours roughly 12 PM – 6 PM (may vary depending on site schedule).
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, and actively engage with students for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and move 20–50 pounds as needed.
Background Checks / Clearances:
- Must pass DOJ & FBI Live Scan (criminal background check via fingerprinting).
- Provide a clear TB test.
- Must pass an in-person CPR/First Aid training
- Must attain Mandated Reporter General Training
- Pass required basic skills assessments (Math and English) OR submit unofficial transcripts showing 48 earned college credits OR have a degree.
