About Ghent Montessori

Ghent Montessori School serves children with respect, curiosity, and purpose through an authentic Montessori approach. We believe in fostering independence, collaboration, and joyful learning. Our after-school program is an extension of that environment — offering students a calm, engaging space to unwind, explore, and build relationships after the school day ends.

Position Overview

We are seeking a warm, dependable, and creative After-School Teacher to work with children ages 3 to 6. This role supports the developmental needs of younger children in a structured-yet-relaxed afternoon setting, balancing freedom and responsibility while offering a safe, fun, and consistent end to the day

Key Responsibilities

  • Create a calm, respectful, and engaging after-school environment
  • Supervise children indoors and outdoors with a focus on safety and independence
  • Support a mix of quiet work time, play, crafts, and community-building activities
  • Offer choices that reflect student interests and promote self-direction
  • Build positive relationships with students while maintaining clear boundaries
  • Communicate effectively with classroom teachers as needed
  • Maintain consistent routines and uphold Montessori principles (grace & courtesy, choice, respect)
  • Assist with cleaning, organization, and preparation of the after-care environment

Ideal Candidate

  • Enjoys working with younger children
  • Can set clear limits while still being fun, approachable, and engaging
  • Organized, calm, and flexible — especially during transitions or conflicts
  • Comfortable managing a mixed-age group with differing needs and energy levels
  • Familiar with Montessori philosophy or open to learning it
  • Reliable and committed to consistency for students and the team

Requirements

  • Experience working with children, preferably ages 3 and older
  • Must be 18+ and able to pass all required background checks
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willing to obtain)
  • High school diploma required; college coursework in education or child development is a plus
  • Commitment to the full school calendar year (August–July)
