Afterschool Literacy Tutor

Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Afterschool Literacy Tutor to support students in developing strong reading and writing skills. This role involves working with children of various ages, providing engaging instruction, and fostering a positive learning environment. The ideal candidate will have experience in literacy education, classroom management, and working with diverse student populations, including elementary and middle students. This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on students' academic success while utilizing your expertise in curriculum development, lesson planning, and learning technology.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging literacy instruction tailored to students’ individual needs using effective teaching strategies and classroom management techniques
  • Develop and implement age-appropriate curriculum and lesson plans focused on literacy education, including reading comprehension and writing skills
  • Incorporate learning technology tools to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes
  • Support students with diverse learning needs, including those requiring special education accommodations or early childhood education approaches
  • Foster a positive classroom environment that encourages student participation, confidence, and independent learning
  • Track student progress and provide feedback to parents and program coordinators
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and nurturing classroom setting conducive to effective learning
  • Collaborate with colleagues to improve program quality and share best practices in tutoring and literacy instruction

Requirements

  • Experience working with children across various age groups, including preschool or early childhood education settings
  • Strong background in literacy education, lesson planning, curriculum development, and classroom management
  • Proficiency with learning technology tools used for educational purposes
  • Excellent writing skills and the ability to adapt instruction for different learning styles
  • Prior tutoring or teaching experience is highly desirable
  • Experience working with students with special needs or in inclusive classrooms is a plus
  • Passion for helping children succeed academically and fostering a love for reading and writing
  • Background check clearance required

Commitment

  • Must be available Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm
  • Position runs through June with consistent weekly commitment expected

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: From $25.00 per hour

Work Location: In person
