Job Role: Water Management and Drip Irrigation Expert
(Project-based Contract)
Compensation: Project-based Fee, competitive and commensurate with expertise.
We are developing a large, diversified, and integrated farm in a land, featuring Tree Planting (Orchard), diverse Horticulture Crop Production, Livestock, and a Vermicomposting unit. Efficient and sustainable water use is critical to our success, particularly given the local climate.
We are seeking a specialized Water Management and Drip Irrigation Planner and I&C Expert to design, install, and commission a high-efficiency irrigation system for our entire property on a project basis.
Key Responsibilities (The Farm's Water Strategist)
The successful candidate will be responsible for creating and executing a complete, site-specific water resource management and irrigation plan that supports all farm enterprises.
1. Water Resource Planning and Assessment:
- Source Identification: Assess existing water sources (borewells, ponds, river access) and recommend optimal placement and capacity for new sources (e.g., borewell depth, pump size).
- Water Harvesting Design: Design structures like farm ponds, check dams, and trenches to maximize rainwater harvesting and reduce run-off based on the site's topography.
- Water Quality Testing: Coordinate and interpret water quality tests to ensure suitability for irrigation and livestock consumption.
2. Drip and Micro-Irrigation System Design:
- System Layout: Design the complete micro-irrigation network, specifying pipe sizes, pressure regulations, filtration units, and headworks for different farm zones (Orchards, Field Crops).
- Crop Water Budgeting: Calculate precise water requirements for all planned crops and tree species (Mango, Litchi, etc.) to determine the irrigation scheduling and duration (ET calculations).
- Technology Selection: Recommend the most suitable type of micro-irrigation (drip, micro-sprinkler, or mini-sprinkler) for each specific crop or tree row based on soil type and required uniformity.
3. Installation and Commissioning (I&C):
- Vendor Management: Select and supervise vendors and local labor for the procurement and installation of the entire system (pumps, pipes, filters, valves).
- Quality Assurance: Ensure all components are installed according to design specifications and maintain hydraulic performance across the entire network.
- Testing and Handover: Commission the system, conduct pressure and uniformity tests, and train the farm staff on daily operation, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Degree or Diploma in Agricultural Engineering, Water Resource Management, Civil Engineering, or Irrigation Technology.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of practical, hands-on experience in designing, installing, and commissioning commercial-scale micro-irrigation systems (drip and sprinkler) in India. Experience with NABARD or government subsidy scheme compliance is highly beneficial.
- Technical Proficiency:
- Expertise in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD) for designing and drafting irrigation plans.
- Proficiency in Hydraulic Calculation Software or advanced Excel for sizing pipes and pump selection.
- Familiarity with various filter technologies (sand, screen, disc) and automated/semi-automated control systems.
- On-Site Skills: Ability to conduct physical surveys (leveling, measuring), supervise labor, and troubleshoot complex irrigation issues on the field.
