We are looking for an
AI Training Instructor and Adoption Specialist
to deliver hands-on training and support workforce adoption of AI tools and workflows across the National Institutes of Health (NIH) scientific databases. This is a part-time or full-time opportunity, available as either a contract role or a staff position, that will be 6 months in duration with the potential for extension. The role is based in the Washington, DC, area with some in-person work. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.
Job Responsibilities
Instruction & Facilitation
-
Deliver hands-on training sessions, workshops, and live demonstrations focused on practical use of AI tools and workflows

Facilitate interactive learning experiences, including working sessions and guided exercises
-
Lead project-based learning, helping participants apply AI tools to their own work and use cases

Adapt instruction for diverse audiences (i.e., scientific, technical, administrative)
Workforce Enablement & Adoption

Provide ongoing coaching, office hours, and troubleshooting support for staff using AI tools

Support development and refinement of real-world AI pilot use cases
-
Help staff translate AI capabilities into practical workflows that improve productivity and efficiency

Promote adoption of consistent, effective AI usage practices
Translation of AI to Practice

Translate technical AI concepts into clear, plain-language guidance and actionable workflows

Collaborate with engineers and SMEs to convert technical solutions into usable, accessible tools and templates

Develop practical examples, use cases, and demonstrations grounded in scientific databases
Training Materials & Resources

Develop and maintain lightweight, practical training materials, including step-by-step guides, example workflows, and prompt templates

Contribute to reusable resources such as prompt libraries and workflow playbooks

Ensure materials are clear, concise, and aligned with real user needs
Feedback & Continuous Improvement

Gather and synthesize feedback from participants to improve training effectiveness

Support evaluation of training outcomes and identify gaps in skills or adoption

Iterate on training approaches based on user experience and pilot outcomes
Required Skills/Experience
-
Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, data science, education, or related field
-
3–5+ years of experience delivering technical or scientific training
-
Experience teaching or enabling use of AI/ML tools, data tools, or technical systems
-
Strong ability to translate complex technical concepts into accessible guidance

Experience facilitating hands-on, interactive learning environments
-
Experience developing practical training materials (e.g., guides, templates, examples)
Desired Skills/Experience

Background in bioinformatics or related fields
-
Experience working with biomedical, scientific, or research communities
-
Familiarity with AI tools such as large language models (LLMs), prompt engineering, and workflow-based AI applications
-
Experience supporting applied AI adoption (not just theoretical training)

Experience collaborating with technical teams to support real-world implementation
