Air Service & Marketing Intern

Part-time Temporary Position $18.00 per hour

General Function:

Under the direction of the VP of Air Service Development & Strategic Marketing, the Air Service & Marketing Intern will assist and support the coordination of the Louisville Regional Airport Authority’s strategic marketing & air service development initiatives in partnership with the Public Relations Dept., as well as supporting ground handling operations at Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF). This is a part-time, temporary position working up to 30 hours per week.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

As part of the Airport Authority’s air service and marketing initiatives, this role will assist in a variety of areas to support air service growth and marketing initiatives. Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Air Service Development: Air service data research via multiple database platforms, in-depth study, and understanding of airline strategy, performance review of existing routes, identification of opportunities, and creating presentations for external and internal stakeholders.
  • Marketing: Supports marketing activations by helping to plan, set up, attend, and break down customer engagement events on and off site such as: Tabling at route launch events, sporting events, community festivals/fairs, and business events.
  • PR/Communications: Supports and coordinates customer service appreciation events in partnership with PR staff including handling all logistical operations. Assists with content creation for social media initiatives including the airport’s Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn accounts. This includes drafting content, monitoring comments, and coordinating a response as needed.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned, when necessary.
  • Works a flexible schedule that may include nights, weekends, and holidays to assist in overseeing the Airport Authority’s 24/7 Customer Service and media relations programs. The unpredictable nature of these responsibilities requires personnel in the Marketing Department to be flexible and available to work non-traditional business hours with little notice. Must be able to familiarize with and navigate all airside and landside areas of the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF) for work related assignments and/or for educating others on Escort privileges. Travel within Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) for recruiting and program training purposes. Maintains a cooperative working relationship with Airport Authority staff members, business partners, community members and the general public.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain appropriate Authority driving and escort privileges in the secure areas of the airport.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.

Employment Standards/ Education/Experience:

  • Applicant must be enrolled in a 4-year College or University (or recent graduate within one year) preferably working towards a degree in business, communication, public relations, marketing, or a related field.
  • Must exhibit a strong desire to learn and be self-driven to complete tasks in a dynamic environment. Must be adaptable to quickly changing goals and objectives.

Communication with Others:

Must be able to communicate professionally with internal and external audiences including, but not limited to, staff, business partners, media, public officials, and the public in a professional setting. Ability to clearly and accurately gather and share information. Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills. Demonstrates strong verbal and written skills. Communicates daily with all levels of Airport Authority staff and volunteer Airport Ambassadors. Frequent contact with airport business partners, public, public officials/VIPs, PR/advertising agencies, and community groups.

Physical/Environmental Requirements:

Activities and events will require the employee to be able to navigate all areas of Airport Authority property and will involve assignments that are outdoors. Must be capable of being on one’s feet for an extended period and lifting 30 pounds unassisted. This class specification should not be interpreted as all inclusive.
