CLASS SUMMARY:
Responsible for skilled work in the installation, maintenance and repair of airport underground utilities systems (with the exception of Electric/Data).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
This class specification represents only the core areas of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the needs of the department.
- Maintenance and repair of underground utilities with the exception of Electric/Data
- Water
- Gas
- Storm
- Sanitary
- Irrigation
- Project review for new utility systems on an as needed basis
- Temporary meters for construction use
- Assist with utility locates
- Performs servicing and testing of plumbing equipment
- Performs water main, fire hydrant and other water system repair
- Operates gasoline and diesel-powered trucks and light pieces of equipment such as backhoes, tractors, runway brooms, tractor mowers, wheel loaders, dump trucks, and snowplows
- On-call 24/7 to respond to system problems
- Complete work orders and record time/material utilized
- Performs on-call duties, specific position assignments will vary based on department needs
- Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma or GED and five years of plumbing experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
LICENSING/CERTIFICATIONS:
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License Required (or ability to acquire Class A CDL within 6 months of hire date)
- Journeyman Plumber License
- Cross Connection and Control Testers license
- Security Identification Display Area Clearance (SIDA)
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Kentucky State Plumbing Code;
- Testing and repair of cross connection devices;
- Wide variety of hand and power tools;
- Test and repair of water meters;
- OSHA Standards, Airfield and FAA Regulations.
- Electrical Safe Work Practices
SKILL IN:
- Use of a variety of computer-based technologies including word processing, and spreadsheets;
- Establishing and maintaining effective, fair, cooperative, collaborative and respectful relationships with internal and external colleagues, peers, work teams and workgroups.
ADA AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Very Heavy Work: exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
