Airport Building & Grounds Maintenance Worker

Join the team at the Durango-La Plata County Airport (DRO) in a fast-paced, high-impact role that keeps our community moving. As an Airport Building & Grounds Maintenance worker, you’ll be essential to daily operations, focusing on the upkeep of the buildings, public spaces, and paved surfaces that welcome travelers and support aircraft every day.

This six-month seasonal role is perfect for someone who enjoys a wide variety of assignments in an exciting airport environment. From operating heavy equipment on the airfield to performing facility repairs and professional grounds care, you’ll help keep DRO clean, functional, and safe for everyone.

Essential Job Duties

What You’ll Do in This Role:


  • Grounds and Airfield Maintenance:
    Maintain airside and landside grounds through mowing, weed whipping, edging, general landscaping, aerating, weed abatement, and grading.
  • Equipment Operation & Care: Operate and assist with routine maintenance of sander trucks, mowers, weed whippers, forklifts, plow trucks, backhoes, and more.
  • Facilities and Buildings Maintenance: Assist with minor repairs and preventative maintenance on airport buildings and facilities, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, doors, and other systems.
  • Surface & Infrastructure Maintenance: Perform surface maintenance tasks like crack filling, minor asphalt or concrete repairs, painting, and striping.
  • General Maintenance: Complete interior maintenance tasks such as painting rooms, hallways, and ceilings, patching and texturing walls, and preparing surfaces for paint.
  • Custodial Support: Assist with custodial and cleaning duties as assigned to support safe, clean, and functional facilities.

Minimum Qualifications

You Have:


  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • A valid state driver’s license.
  • The ability to pass a background check to work in a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) secured area.
You Will Succeed in This Role If You:
  • Have experience in grounds or facilities work, such as landscaping, general maintenance, or property upkeep.
  • Are comfortable using a variety of tools to complete routine maintenance tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Have experience operating equipment and vehicles, such as pickup trucks, skid steers, ATVs, tractors, and other light to heavy machinery.
  • Can accurately read and interpret technical instructions, safety manuals, and operational manuals.
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully, contributing to a team-focused environment and positive customer experience.
