Airport Groundskeeper

Job Summary

The Airport Groundskeeper is responsible for maintaining the airport’s grounds, turf, landscaping, buildings, and equipment in a safe, attractive, and operational condition.

Key Responsibilities

Grounds & Turf Maintenance

- Mow, edge, trim, and maintain turf areas including runway safety areas and terminal grounds.

- Maintain landscape beds, shrubs, trees, and ornamental plantings.

- Perform weed control and monitor turf health.

- Maintain vegetation in accordance with FAA safety standards.

Herbicide & Chemical Application

- Apply herbicides in compliance with Kentucky pesticide laws.

- Obtain and maintain applicator certification or work under supervision.

- Store, mix, apply, and dispose of chemicals per label directions.

- Maintain application records and use proper PPE.

Equipment Operation & Maintenance

- Operate and maintain mowers, trimmers, tractors, and sprayers.

- Perform routine maintenance and report major repairs.

- Ensure equipment is safely stored and secured.

Building & Facility Maintenance

- Perform minor building repairs, painting, door and light maintenance.

- Assist with hangar, terminal, fence, gate, and signage upkeep.

- Preform routine inspections for leaks and damage.

- Assist in pavement maintenance scheduling such as identifying when sealcoating or crack repair is needed.

- Perform custodial duties as needed.

Airport Operational Support

- Assist with snow removal and emergency response.

- Preform facility inspections and identify areas needing attention.

- Participate in inspections and special events.

Qualifications

- High school diploma or equivalent.

- Groundskeeping or landscaping experience preferred.

- Valid Kentucky driver’s license.

- Kentucky pesticide applicator certification or ability to obtain.

- Military service and related experience may substitute for civilian groundskeeping or landscaping experience.

Physical Requirements

- Ability to lift 50 lbs.

- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Pay: From $20.00 per hour

Work Location: In person
