Location: Rapid City, SD
Job Summary: This position is responsible for maintaining Airport Landside facilities, grounds, and related property to ensure a safe, clean, and well-functioning environment for passengers, tenants, and staff. The Landside Maintenance Technician works a variable schedule, including weekends and holidays, and participates in an on-call rotation to support operational needs and respond to emergent issues.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Airport Landside Maintenance Technician I:
- Operates and maintains airport systems, including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing, electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, and computer-controlled systems.
- Conducts outdoor grounds maintenance using a variety of hand tools and motorized equipment such as small loaders, plows, sweepers, tractors, mowers, and Toolcats.
- Performs a full range of custodial tasks, including cleaning, scrubbing, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, window cleaning, dusting, and trash removal.
- Completes minor repairs to buildings, equipment, and furniture using appropriate hand and power tools.
- Installs and performs minor repairs on basic plumbing, electrical, and electronic components.
Performs other duties as assigned to support airport operations and facility upkeep.
Airport Landside Maintenance Technician II:
- Performs all duties assigned to the Landside Maintenance Technician I.
- Troubleshoots and repairs airport systems and equipment referenced in the Level I classification, using advanced diagnostic skills and technical knowledge.
- Provides training and guidance to Level I staff on safe work practices, proper equipment operation, and maintenance procedures.
- Maintains and updates facilities procedures, ensuring documentation reflects current practices and operational needs.
Serves as the lead worker in the absence of the Airport Landside Maintenance Lead, providing direction and coordinating daily tasks
Qualifications:
Airport Landside Maintenance Technician I:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
- 1-year related experience and/or training in facility maintenance, facility repair, or small equipment operations required.
- Must possess a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire.
- Must obtain and maintain a Secure Identification Display Area (SIDA) Badge.
Must obtain and maintain an airport movement area driver permit within 30 days from date of hire.
Airport Landside Maintenance Technician II:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
- 3 years related experience and/or training in facility maintenance, facility repair, or small equipment operations preferred.
Experience in airport, aviation or airfield environment preferred.
Working Conditions:
- Frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather, and extreme cold.
- Occasionally exposed to high or precarious locations, extreme heat, and risk of electrical shock.
- Works in an environment where noise levels are typically very loud.
