Airport Maintenance Worker – Augusta State Airport (KAUG)
The City of Augusta is a thriving community that blends rich history with modern opportunities and is home to nearly 19,000 residents. Nestled along the scenic Kennebec River, Augusta has served as Maine’s capital since 1827 and is considered by many to be one of the nation’s most picturesque state capitals. As the center of state and local government, Augusta serves as a hub for education, healthcare, and commerce in Central Maine. With a diverse economy, a spirit of innovation, and a revitalized downtown, Augusta is an ideal place to live, work, and recreate, where opportunity and quality of life seamlessly intersect.
We’re hiring an Airport Maintenance Worker to help keep Augusta State Airport operating safely and efficiently year-round. If you prefer a job that keeps you active and out from behind a desk, this could be a great fit. We’re looking for a hands-on worker to maintain runways, repair equipment, clear snow, and handle everything from security fencing to runway lighting systems. One day you might be behind the wheel of a plow or loader in a snowstorm, the next you’re fixing engines, welding parts, or tackling facility repairs. No two days are the same, and your work directly supports safe, reliable air travel for the Augusta community and beyond. This role is built for someone who takes pride in hands-on work, including operating Class 8 trucks, working with tools, solving problems, and getting the job done in tough conditions. If you’ve got experience with heavy equipment, mechanical repairs, and general maintenance - and don’t mind working in all types of weather conditions - we want you on our team. Winter hours are currently Monday–Friday 6AM–2PM, plus nights and weekends as needed for snow removal. The summer schedule changes to four 10-hour days. A complete job description is available on the City of Augusta website https://www.augustamaine.gov/employment.
Requirements Qualified candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and a valid Maine Class A or B Driver’s License. Candidates should have at least one year of experience operating heavy equipment and performing related maintenance work. All CDL-required positions are subject to the City’s drug and alcohol testing program in accordance with FHWA regulations.
