Roles & Responsibilities:
- Work under the management of / and report to the site Superintendent in the Directorate of Aircraft Maintenance at the Base.
- Inspect, maintain, and adjust aircrew flight equipment such as flight helmets, flotation devices, survival kits, helmet-mounted devices, aircrew night vision, ocular systems, and other aircrew life support equipment.
- Install and remove Aircraft-installed Aircrew Life Support Equipment (ALSE).
- Use various test equipment to conduct reliability testing on ALSE.
- Maintain inspection and accountability documentation for ALSE issued to aircrews or prepositioned on aircraft.
- Plan and schedule Aviation Life Support Activities and Survival and Life Support Continuation Training.
- Ensure the availability of required space, supplies, tools, and equipment for efficient ALSE functioning.
- Establish performance standards for preventive maintenance on life rafts, life preservers, and emergency radio communication devices.
- Develop and supervise procedures for inspecting and maintaining life support equipment such as parachutes, harnesses, survival kits, vests, helmets, and oxygen masks.
- Prepare, supervise, and conduct life support and survival continuation training programs.
- Ensure spare parts availability and control equipment issuance.
- Establish and maintain accountability systems for equipment.
- Coordinate activities with other units such as maintenance and supply.
- Recommend procedural changes to optimize personnel utilization.
- Supervise Life Support Personnel.
- Assign work tasks like inspecting life support equipment and conducting pre-flight briefings.
- Set work priorities and maintain records on the status of life support equipment.
- Determine training needs for individuals and groups.
- Plan and conduct training on cleaning, lubricating, and minor repairs of life support equipment.
- Conduct refresher training to keep personnel proficient.
- Perform technical aircrew life support functions, including training in equipment operation, care, and use.
- Conduct technical training such as simulated egress, harness hanging, and forced landings or ditching.
- Present pre-flight briefings on equipment for special missions.
- Provide indoctrination training on egress systems for non-rated personnel.
- Determine equipment arrangement requirements.
- Implement policies, regulations, and directives related to life support equipment.
- Perform complex fitting and adjustments of equipment.
- Design training aids and demonstrate equipment use.
- Evaluate subordinate recommendations for improvements.
- Conduct on-the-job training as a trainer, overseeing ALSE technicians in scheduled and unscheduled maintenance to qualify personnel.
