Aluminum Metallurgist

SUMMARY

The Aluminum Metallurgist reviews all processes of the jobs. Responsibility for achievement of high quality, low cost, safety and on-time performance goals and development of advanced methods and techniques to increase productivity. This is a very fast paced environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees all metallurgical aspects of the company
  • Oversees all approvals/audit accreditations including customer, AS9100 and Nadcap
  • Oversees all training related to aerospace-specifications
  • Assists in Managing production personnel
  • Creates and dispositions Non-Conforming Reports, Root Cause Corrective Action Reports
  • Reviews calibration of equipment/survey’s
  • Provides input on purchase of equipment related to metallurgical process
  • Reviews work instructions
  • Reviews test certifications
  • Reviews heat treat certifications
  • Reviews ultra sonic certifications
  • Reviews Certificate of Conformance
  • Assists in Completing 1st Articles
  • Completes Metallurgical Reports
  • Reviews Customer purchase order requirements
  • Participates in all production meetings
  • Performs inspections
  • Works closely with production personnel
  • Inspects material and gathers data throughout the forging process
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Management

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to read and comprehend complex technical information
  • Ability to complete production reports
  • Ability to manage personnel for maximum productivity
  • Ability to use tape measure and calipers
  • Ability to use Excel, Work, Power Point and Pivot Tables
  • Accurately measure using 1/8 and 1/16, add and subtract numbers and fractions
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Experience & Education

  • Metallurgical Degree/Material Science (Aluminum)
  • Direct experience in Open Die Handforgings
  • Experience with AS9100 & Nadcap a plus
  • 10 years Management experience

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing normal duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands frequently. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception to read instruments and identify colors. WORK ENVIRONMENTWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and extreme heat. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions and vibration. The noise level in this work environment requires hearing protection.
