Position Summary
MUST HAVE SHIPYARD EXPERIENCE - Will be required to oversee all functions pertaining to the Aluminum Welding department.
The Aluminum Welding Supervisor ensures the manufacturing process remains smooth and efficient by organizing workflows and monitoring staff. Plans, directs, or coordinates the work activities and resources in the welding department necessary for new construction and repairs in accordance with cost, quality, and quantity specifications.
Supervises (including hiring, orienting, training, evaluating, and discharging) the aluminum welders to ensure they receive the training and support required for optimal performance. Maintains up-to-date supervision records on each employee. Completes all staff evaluations and any required staff disciplinary actions as requested and on time.

Essential Functions Statement(s)

Directs and coordinate the aluminum welding department of St. Johns Ship Building's projects.

Meets or exceeds the production deadlines for the aluminum welding department.

Ensures that the aluminum welding department budget is meets or exceeds goals.

Monitors the production schedule, prioritizes work and adjusts staffing and production to assure deadlines are met

Notifies the Production Manager when it is necessary to outsource work.

Coordinates the flow of raw materials to assure continuous production.

Requisitions the purchase of supplies and equipment as needed.

Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.

Coordinates maintenance on welding and related equipment as needed.

Schedules employees in his/her area of responsibility, approves time off and ensures proper staffing.

Inspect Fit-up and tank shells

Operate automated welding equipment

Layout and plasma cut

Weld airtight, watertight, fuel tight

Able to read blueprints and weld schedules

Work with inspection authorities as well as in house QC

Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits.

Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify supervisors.

Examine work pieces for defects and measure work pieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications.

Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment.

Analyze engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, sketches, work orders, and material safety data sheets to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations.

Mark or tag material with proper job number, piece marks, and other identifying marks as required.

Position and secure work pieces, using hoists, cranes, wire, and banding machines or hand tools.

Clean or degrease parts, using wire brushes or portable grinders

Check grooves, angles, or gap allowances, using micrometers, calipers, and precision measuring instruments.

Gouge metals, using the air-arc gouging process..

Use fire suppression methods in industrial emergencies.

Set up and use ladders and scaffolding as necessary to complete work.

And miscellaneous duties as may be required.
