AM Solution Engineer Level 1

The AM Solution Engineer supports Mimo Technik’s additive manufacturing solution development, customer and program engineering support, quotation and CAM support, technical documentation, manufacturing readiness activities, and project execution. This role is intended for an early-career engineer with strong technical fundamentals, practical CAD/CAM aptitude, and interest in laser powder bed fusion additive manufacturing for aerospace, defense, commercial, and government customers.

The AM Solution Engineer works cross-functionally with Engineering, Materials & Processes, Production, Quality, Supply Chain, Business Development, and Program Management to help convert customer requirements into manufacturable, correctly scoped, and technically credible additive manufacturing solutions. The role supports feasibility reviews, DfAM/DFM assessments, build preparation inputs, quote packages, customer technical responses, production-readiness documentation, and program execution deliverables.

This is an entry-level engineering role. The AM Solution Engineer is expected to work under the direction of senior engineering, program, or technical leadership while developing the capability to independently support customer quotations, build-preparation workflows, technical documentation, and assigned project work packages.

1. Additive Manufacturing Solution Development

  • Lead DfAM/DFM reviews, build orientation, support strategy, material and process fit, post-processing assumptions, inspection feasibility, and manufacturing constraints. Escalate technical, cost, schedule, and manufacturability risks to the appropriate engineering, quality, production, or program lead.
  • Support the development of manufacturable additive manufacturing solutions for customer parts, assemblies, prototypes, production hardware, qualification builds, and program deliverables.
  • Review customer drawings, CAD models, specifications, technical data packages, and statements of work to identify requirements, assumptions, missing information, and technical risks.

2. Customer and Program Engineering Support

  • Support customer, program, and internal engineering activities by translating customer requirements into clear internal technical inputs, build-preparation requirements, inspection needs, and production-readiness actions.
  • Assist with customer technical discussions, quote reviews, design reviews, and program execution meetings as assigned.
  • Prepare technical questions, assumptions, exceptions, clarifications, meeting notes, action items, and decision records.
  • Coordinate with Program Management to support schedule tracking, deliverable status, and customer reporting.

3. Manufacturing Readiness Support

  • Support engineering-to-production handoff and manufacturing readiness for additive manufacturing jobs and programs. Assist with build-prep instructions, router/traveler inputs, material requirements, inspection requirements, post-processing steps, tooling or fixture needs, witness coupon planning, outside processing assumptions, and data-package requirements.
  • Participate in quote-to-build handoffs, contract review inputs, readiness reviews, production kickoffs, build-risk reviews, KPI reviews, and lessons-learned activities to help reduce production risk and improve repeatability.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields is recommended:

  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Manufacturing Engineering
  • Aerospace Engineering
  • Materials Science / Materials Engineering
  • Industrial Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering Technology or Manufacturing Engineering Technology, if paired with strong CAD/CAM and manufacturing experience
  • Closely related STEM degree with relevant additive manufacturing, CAD/CAM, manufacturing, or materials coursework

Experience

  • 0–2 years of full-time professional experience in engineering, additive manufacturing, manufacturing, applications engineering, technical sales engineering, CAD/CAM, product engineering, or related technical work.
  • Internship, co-op, undergraduate research, senior design, lab, maker-space, machine-shop, Formula SAE, aerospace club, robotics, or AM project experience may count toward the experience target.
  • Hands-on experience with additive manufacturing, preferably metal AM or LPBF.
  • Coursework or project experience in CAD, CAM, DfAM, manufacturing processes, materials science, mechanical design, metrology, statistics, or quality systems.
  • Familiarity with one or more CAD/CAM or build-preparation tools such as SolidWorks, Siemens NX, Autodesk Fusion, Materialise Magics, Netfabb, nTopology, Mastercam, or equivalent.
  • Understanding of engineering drawings, GD&T fundamentals, material specifications, and inspection requirements.
  • Exposure to aerospace, defense, automotive, motorsport, robotics, space, or regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Strong technical writing skills and ability to communicate with both engineering and non-engineering audiences.
  • Interest in government programs, America Makes, SBIR/STTR, DoD manufacturing readiness, supplier qualification, or aerospace production qualification.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001, AS9100, ITAR, configuration management, document control, or manufacturing quality systems is helpful but not required.
  • Ability to read technical drawings, CAD models, specifications, and statements of work.
  • Practical problem-solving skills with attention to technical detail.
  • Strong written communication for quote assumptions, technical notes, meeting summaries, and project deliverables.
  • Comfortable working across engineering, production, quality, supply chain, business development, and program management.
  • Willingness to learn additive manufacturing build preparation, materials/process controls, inspection planning, and production-readiness workflows.
  • Ability to manage multiple quote and project-support tasks in a fast-paced small-business environment.
  • Professional judgment to escalate unclear requirements, customer-impacting risks, or technical decisions outside assigned authority.
  • Work in both office and manufacturing environments.
  • Occasionally enter production areas where additive manufacturing equipment, powder-handling areas, post-processing equipment, machining, inspection equipment, and industrial operations may be present.
  • Follow all safety, PPE, housekeeping, ITAR/export-control, and quality-system requirements.
  • May occasionally lift or move lightweight parts, build plates, samples, tools, or documentation packages within Company safety limits.
  • May support customer visits, supplier visits, trade events, government/program reviews, or technical meetings as assigned.

Pay: $65,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
