JOB SUMMARY
This position is located in District of Columbia Board of Elections (BOE), Office of the General Counsel. Whose mission is to enfranchise eligible residents, conduct elections, and assure the integrity of the electoral process as mandated by both federal and local laws. BOE is expanding its mission to increase civic participation and provide citizens of the District of Columbia with vital information and data for the purpose of enhancing the voter experience.
The incumbent is responsible for: coordinating DCBOE’s efforts to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and other federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to persons with disabilities; investigating any complaints that the agency has violated Title II of the ADA; coordinating the agency’s efforts to comply with the provisions of the Language Access Act (LAA) and its Language Access (LA) activities; and setting and executing the objectives of the agency’s LA Plan.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Interpret and apply federal and District laws regarding equal access for people with disabilities and/or language access needs. Monitor and ensure DCBOE’s compliance with District and federal disability and language access laws. Develop and implement an ADP Plan to accommodate DCBOE staff and voters with disabilities. Develop and maintain relationships with governmental entities, local disability and language access advocacy groups, and other interested stakeholders so as to facilitate optimal program execution and compliance.
Monitor and improve the physical, electronic, and programmatic access to facilities, programs, and activities operated under DCBOE’s authority for people with disabilities and language access needs. Maintain an up-to-date database of all voting. Provide guidance and training to staff regarding ADA and LA responsibilities and sensitivity to ADA and LA issues. Facilitate the resolution of employee grievances and complaints under the ADA. Coordinate with DCBOE’s communications team to ensure that publications, notices, websites, and meetings accommodate people with disabilities and/or language access needs.

The work is typically performed in an office setting. Incumbent will be required to perform some outdoors in the community, at the agency’s warehouse, at polling places and other offices as required within the District of Columbia. Sometimes this position will require long periods of sitting and standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying items up to 50 pounds. This position requires working irregular hours, weekends, holidays and evenings during election cycles. Promotion Potential – None.
