I Would Rather Be Reading (IWRBR) is dedicated to creating equitable access to trauma-responsive literacy support and social-emotional learning (SEL) for children across greater Louisville. Through our Educate & Elevate program, we utilize a "Whole Child Approach," ensuring students' success through safe, welcoming environments and rich learning experiences. Utilizing our Mindful Literacy and Career Pathways Curriculum, we empower students to develop a strong sense of self and emotional regulation.
Position Overview
As a 100-hour AmeriCorps Program Support member, you will serve as a vital support system for students in our summer camp setting. This role is primarily student-facing, focused on providing direct behavioral and academic assistance to ensure every child can successfully engage with the program.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct Student Support: Act as a consistent support system for students throughout the camp day, helping them navigate activities and social interactions.
- Behavioral Assistance: Provide students with the tools and guidance needed to manage their behavior and stay regulated.
- Targeted Instruction: Lead small groups for reading tutoring or behavior-focused SEL lessons as needed to support student growth.
- Operational Support: Assist with the preparation of program supplies and lessons to ensure a high-quality experience for all participants.
- Data & Logistics: Support the collection of timely program data, such as student attendance and engagement metrics.
- Professional Development: Attend mandatory IWRBR trainings and partner-approved sessions to enhance your skills in trauma-responsive care.
- Compliance: Adhere to all AmeriCorps-prohibited activity guidelines as reviewed during orientation.

Requirements
- Background Check: Candidates must undergo a comprehensive federal background check. IWRBR will cover all costs associated with this requirement.
Schedule & Term of Service
- Total Hours: 100 hours.
- Training: Required training sessions will take place in May.
- Summer Camp: June 8th – July 17th.
- Daily Commitment: Approximately 3-5 hours per day during the camp session.
- Completion Deadline: All service hours must be completed by July 31st.
Compensation & Benefits
- Living Allowance: $1,597.60 (Paid in equal monthly installments via direct deposit).
- Segal Education Award: $416.17 (Awarded upon successful completion of all 100 hours by July 31st).

Pay: $1,597.60 per year
