Analyst Marine Biodiversity Assessment and Conservation

Job Purpose:

Support and participate in conducting research, monitoring and assessment activities related to marine species or habitats in the Emirate using systematic and scientifically sound methodologies for species or habitat conservation and restoration in the Emirate.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Follow the day-to-day operations set by the project lead to ensure continuity of work and the delivery of effective and high-quality outputs.
  • Report on a regular basis on the operational activities, challenges and issues faced, mitigations taken, etc. as required, to keep the Line Manager informed and updated about their activities.
  • Conduct field surveys and monitoring activities to gather the required data on marine species or habitats and evaluate the effectiveness of conservation or restoration measures on the distribution of marine species or habitats and identify potential threats.
  • Participate in documenting, capturing, and maintaining data from monitoring activities to ensure adequate and comprehensive data is maintained for lab work and / or analyses activities, and ensure data is collected in line with set priorities, standards and guidelines.
  • Provide support in reviewing collected data / samples to understand current state of marine species and analyse findings against various selected sites and previously captured data inventory in order to understand trends and changes.
  • Provide support in conducting data collection/ sampling activities using processes such as GIS systems and visual recording while utilising computer databases and specialist software to analyse information and carry out population assessments of particular marine species or habitats ensuring adherence to established protocols.
  • Provide support in analysing collected data/ samples including ecologic, social and economic information related to marine species or habitats against set measures, conservation programmes and biodiversity considerations in order to identify trends and threats and evaluate effectiveness of conservation or restoration programmes.
  • Prepare reports to present marine species or habitat related research, assessment and monitoring activities, key findings, and evaluate identified issues in order to inform effective decision making and ensure timely and effective reporting.


Qualifications & Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biology/ Marine Biodiversity/ Marine Science or any related specialisation.
  • Required Experience is 0 - 2 years.
