An exciting opportunity has become available for Analytical Chemistb> with experience in Food Chromatography to join a well - known government organisation to perform analysis of food analytes and other nutritional compounds in food related matrices.
The successful candidate will have good knowledge of Gas Chromatography (GC) and High-Pressure Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) equipment coupled with significant experience within a NATA accredited laboratory; demonstrating proficiency in the operation of instrument software and trouble shooting and maintaining analytical instruments.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Undertake extraction and analysis of food analytes and other nutritional compounds in food related matrices in accordance to documented methods and quality control protocols.
- Operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation such as GC-FID, GC-MS, HPLC under general supervision.
- Prepare samples, reagents and standards in accordance to documented and/or standard methods.
- Complete all necessary documentation in accordance with the Food Composition Quality manual.
- Report all Quality Control failures or anomalies to the direct supervisor.
- Perform routine calibrations of equipment in accordance with the Food Composition Quality Manual.
- Ensure laboratory area is clean, tidy and safe.
- Any other duties as directed by the immediate supervisor.
Ideally you will have:
- Tertiary qualifications in a scientific field (chemistry or equivalent) with a minimum of 1-year relevant experience.
- Demonstrable knowledge of the operation and maintenance of Dionex/Agilent/Waters High Pressure Liquid Chromatography and GC-MS, GC-FID Systems.
- Experience in analysing samples for food analytes and other nutritional compounds food using Chromatography equipment (GC-FID, GC-MS, HPLC etc).
- Demonstrable experience in the routine analysis of vitamins, preservatives and other nutritional compounds in food matrices.
- Highly organised and able to work in a fast turnaround time environment to meet clients' needs.
- Ability to work responsibly as a member of a team and capable of working under minimal supervision to pursue tasks to a satisfactory conclusion.
- Work collaboratively a team environment while demonstrating initiative and drive to meet the goals of the team and the section.
- Demonstrated ability to consistently exhibit company's values of being adaptable, accountable, innovative, inclusive, influential and strategic.
