Android Engineer — Mobile App for Industrial Device Control

Elytra Studios is looking for a skilled Android Engineer to maintain and enhance a production mobile app that controls industrial hardware (PLCs / controllers), and to contribute to a ground-up rewrite using modern Android practices.

Location: 69B, PCSIR, Near Ameer Chowk, Lahore, Pakistan
Timings: 11:00 AM – 8:00 PM
Job Type: Full-time (On-site)
Salary: Starting from PKR 80,000

About the Role
You will work on a live production app that connects to industrial devices over network and/or serial communication, reads sensor data, and allows operators to monitor and control equipment from tablets. Your responsibilities will include maintaining the existing app (bug fixes, hotfixes, stability improvements) and developing features in a new clean-architecture codebase using modern Android practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain the live production app and ensure stable connectivity and workflows
• Implement features using clean architecture (data, domain, presentation layers)
• Work with HTTP/REST APIs and industrial protocols such as Modbus TCP or RTU
• Support CI/CD, release signing, and code quality processes
• Collaborate through clear documentation and structured PR workflows

Required Skills

• Strong Kotlin and Android SDK (min 24, target 34)
• Jetpack Compose, ViewModel, lifecycle, and state management
• Layered architecture, repositories, use cases, and dependency injection (Hilt)
• REST/JSON APIs, TCP sockets, and/or serial I/O (USB-serial on Android)
• Experience or strong ability to work with Modbus and PLC/controller APIs
• Gradle (Kotlin DSL), Git, static analysis tools
• Ability to maintain legacy code while building a modern architecture

Nice to Have
Industrial IoT apps, building automation, HVAC, BMS, PLC/SCADA-style UIs, Modbus experience, USB host/serial on Android, CI/CD (GitHub Actions), release signing, design systems, responsive tablet UIs
