Overview:
The Wood County Humane Society is an independent, non-profit, limited admission animal shelter located in Bowling Green, Ohio. The organization was founded in 1904, and have been in our current location since but we did not move into a permanent brick-and-mortar structure of our own until 1988. Our mission is to “Be a community leader providing services and resources that enrich the relationship between animals and humans through advocacy, education, and animal welfare.” Toward that goal, WCHS offers animal shelter, affordable medical treatment, adoption, food/litter assistance programs, a Humane Agent, and more.
We are currently hiring Animal Care Staff. These hourly, part-time, non-exempt positions are the primary caregivers for animals in our care by providing all aspects of animal care using established best practices in animal husbandry and sheltering, including cleaning, feeding, housing, and medicating.
Responsibilities:
Provides exemplary customer service and facilitate good experience for all shelter guests
Completes the intake of surrendered animals
Assists potential adopters with finding an appropriate pet for their lifestyle, perform adoption counseling, and complete the adoption process
Performs basic medical procedures including giving injections, drawing blood, etc.
Maintains cleanliness of all areas of shelter
Observes animals for signs of illness or injury and reports to appropriate supervisor
Transports animals as necessary
Completes general office work, such as answering phones, returning calls, data entry, and completes follow-up calls to adopters
Assists in training and mentoring of new staff, volunteers, and community service volunteers
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be at least 18 years of age
High school diploma or equivalent
Maintain a valid driver’s license and be insurable by shelter insurance company
Must have reliable transportation
Prior experience with a variety of animals preferred-comfortable handling dogs, cats, and other species
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays
Must be comfortable interacting with the public and ability to communicate well both orally and in writing
Operating knowledge of Microsoft Word, email, Facebook and able to learn shelter software system
Effective listening skills
Deliver friendly, courteous, and respectful service to others
Ability to cope with physically demanding, stressful, and emotional situations professionally and calmly
Ability to lift 40lbs, kneel, bend, and stand for extended periods of time
Utilize appropriate safety procedures for self and the public to avoid the risk of job-related injury, disease or infection
Preferred Qualifications:
Be current on or obtain Tetanus vaccination
