JOB SUMMARY

The Humane Society of Hobart strives for the highest standard of care for animals in our population. This is an entry level lab positon that requires that you have some experience in a veterinary or shelter lab setting. Responsibilities for veterinary/lab technicians include but are not limited to completion of animal treatment plans, daily dispersal of medications, provision of vaccinations, behavioral enrichment, and humane disposition. Excellent animal handling skills, detailed record keeping, and maintenance of proper disease control protocols are mandatory. Staff on the Hobart Humane team are expected to possess exceptional communication skills and have compassion for people and the animals in our care. Team members are professional, positive, energetic, creative, drama free, and dedicated. The Humane Society of Hobart is a managed admission shelter and does not euthanize based on a particular breed or to create more space in our population.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS Works closely with Animal Care Providers, Veterinary Partners, Fosters, Animal Warden, Office Staff, Volunteers, Adopters, and the Community of Hobart, Indiana. Lab Technicians must have excellent people skills, be compassionate, communicate medical concerns daily in the established and appropriate channels, and take initiative to problem solve and improve operations. Reports directly to the Shelter Manger.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

· Completion of daily treatment plans AND 3 DAILY ROUNDS for animals in our care.

· Daily preparation and dispersal of medications.

· Provide vaccinations upon intake.

· Provide FIV, FELV, and Heartworm testing.

· Daily cleaning and sanitation of isolation areas.

· Orders and maintains medical supplies and medications.

· Manage post-operative care of surgical patients.

· Provide client education, adopter support, and foster care management.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

· Ability to lift 50lbs. and stand or sit for long periods of time.

· Ability to navigate PetPoint database.

· Ability to maintain accurate record keeping.

· Ability to withstand environments which can be loud, odorous, and allergenic.

· Ability to manage difficult, stressful, and emotional situations, and concepts.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

· Associate Lab Technician License

· Two years’ experience in an animal clinic or animal shelter.

Pay Scale $12.00 - $13.00 Entry Level Lab Position
