The Visual Art Department at Holyoke Community College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty member specializing in Animation and Digital Arts. This position will provide leadership, curricular vision, and pedagogical innovation within the Visual Arts Program. Holyoke Community College is a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), and successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to the college supporting the success of a diverse student population. The faculty member will teach a range of courses in animation, digital arts, graphic design, and foundational studio courses as needed. The position requires active engagement in curriculum development, program assessment, and ongoing efforts to strengthen transfer pathways and career readiness in the fields of animation and digital media. This is a fully on-campus position and requires participation in departmental service, institutional governance, and student mentorship consistent with tenure-track faculty expectations.

Under the direction of the Dean of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities, primary responsibilities include the following:
  • Deliver instruction in introductory and advanced courses in animation and digital arts, along with foundational coursework in two-dimensional design and graphic design as program needs require.
  • Staying informed about emerging technologies, software platforms, aesthetic trends, and industry standards in animation, motion graphics, and digital media production.
  • Lead curriculum development initiatives by creating new courses and revising existing offerings to ensure the Visual Arts Program remains contemporary, conceptually rigorous, and aligned with transfer and workforce pathways.
  • Collaborate with Information Technology staff to oversee the effective operation, maintenance, and updating of computer labs, digital equipment, and specialized software used in animation and digital arts instruction.
  • Provide comprehensive academic advising for students majoring in Visual Art and Graphic Design, including guidance on transfer preparation, portfolio development, and career pathways.
  • Hold regular office hours and provide individualized academic and technical support to foster student success and skill development.
  • Participate actively in shared governance through service on departmental, divisional, and college-wide committees, task forces, and subcommittees.
  • Fulfill institutional service responsibilities in accordance with the MCCC collective bargaining agreement.
  • Coordinate and advance the Visual Arts Program by designing new and updating existing courses to maintain an evolving, contemporary, and forward- looking curriculum
  • Contribute to department efforts to recruit and retain students
  • Build and reinforce relationships with relevant local businesses as well as transfer institutions, in order to support students’ pursuit of transfer and career opportunities.

Minimum Qualification:

  • Master's of Fine Art (MFA) degree in Visual Art, Animation, Digital Art, or a closely related field, completed by August 2026;
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud and other industry-standard software platforms used in animation, motion graphics, digital imaging, and interactive media;
  • A record of excellence in teaching (at least two years of experience teaching at the collegiate level);
  • Advanced knowledge of both analog and digital methods in the field;
  • Commitment to equity;
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Active creative practice, exhibition record, or professional portfolio demonstrating sustained engagement in the field;
  • Experience working successfully with a diverse student body;
  • Ongoing engagement with contemporary discourse in art, design, animation, and arts education;
  • Evidence of excellence in instruction, including the use of varied, student-centered, culturally responsive pedagogical strategies that address multiple learning modalities;
  • Professional experience in animation, motion graphics, digital media production, or a closely related creative industry;
  • Demonstrated record of curriculum development, including the design of new courses or certificate pathways in animation, digital arts, or emerging media;
  • Grant writing, program development, or community outreach experience that strengthens external partnerships and industry connections;
  • Evidence of student mentorship that supports transfer success, portfolio development, internships, or job placement in creative fields.

Full-time, tenure-track MCCC/MTA position:
Salary: $59,008.00 - $70,786.00. Actual salary will be commensurate with education and experience in accordance with MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement. Full State benefits.
Funding: State.
Start Date: August, 2026.
