Annuals & Tropicals Buyer

B.B. Barns is seeking an experienced, data-driven Retail Buyer to lead purchasing and strategy for our Annuals, Tropicals, Herbs, Seasonal Plants, Seeds, Bulbs, and Christmas Greens categories.

This leadership role drives sales growth, margin performance, inventory optimization, and vendor partnerships while delivering a best-in-class customer experience.

Key Responsibilities

Buying & Inventory Management

  • Develop seasonal and annual buying strategies
  • Forecast sales, margins, and open-to-buy budgets
  • Analyze sales data, GMROII, inventory turns, and product performance
  • Manage product assortment, pricing, and purchasing quantities
  • Maintain accurate POS inventory and category structure
  • Oversee purchasing logistics and delivery timelines
  • Prepare weekly sales and inventory performance reports

Vendor & Product Management

  • Build and maintain strong supplier relationships
  • Negotiate pricing, quality standards, and purchasing terms
  • Source new products aligned with trends and customer demand
  • Monitor product quality and manage markdown/clearance strategy

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Partner with Retail Operations, Inside Sales Manager, and Marketing
  • Support merchandising, promotions, signage, and seasonal planning
  • Walk the sales floor daily to assess quality, inventory, and team needs
  • Assist with special orders and customer service escalations

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of retail buying experience
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with sales forecasting
  • Proficiency in Excel, Google Workspace, and POS systems
  • Plant knowledge preferred (training provided)
  • Detail-oriented, collaborative, and solutions-driven
  • Strong communication and organizational skills

Pay: $45,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
