TITLE: Special Education PreK Teacher
JOB GOAL: To provide evaluations and an IEP for 3-5 year old student referrals who qualify under IDEA to receive services
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
REPORTS TO: Principal, Special Education Coordinator, Elementary Curriculum & Instruction Coordinator
SUPERVISES: PreK Special Education Aide
1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
2. Possess and maintain a valid Alabama Professional Educator Certificate in special education and/or collaborative education with a “P” certification
3. Knowledge of curriculum development, effective classroom practices, and professional development
4. Good public relations skills
5. Ability to understand the unique needs and learning characteristics of students 6. Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification licensure
under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457 7. Knowledge of and ability to use and facilitate the use of various forms of
education technology and assist in instructional practices
8. Superior leadership, collaboration, and interpersonal skills and ability to be an instructional leader across multiple settings.
9. Ability to work collaboratively as a team member with large and/or diverse groups.
10. Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity to perform job responsibilities.
11. Proficiency in oral, written, and electronic communications with the ability to produce, lead, and deliver presentations to various stakeholders.
12. Ability to use technology to communicate, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information.
13. Ability to collaborate and communicate with administrators, teachers, parents, and other school system staff to implement of IEPs for designated students.
14. Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.

4. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles and practice of effective instruction for the PreK special education classroom.

7. Uses technology for communication, presentations, research, data analysis, budgeting, record keeping, reporting, scheduling, and other job responsibilities as required.
8. Supervises and coordinates the referral, evaluation, identification, and placement of PreK students under IDEA guidelines.
9. Implements curriculum and programming specific to the needs of all students. 10. Collaborate with school bookkeeper on matters related to finance, purchase
orders, receipting monies, budgets, purchasing, and all other items that may fall under the finance department guidelines.
11. Collaborates with the local school administration in identifying maintenance concerns.
12. Supervises students.
13. Manages the behavior of learners in the classroom and participates in management of student behavior in other parts of the school. Manages and updates the FBA, BIP as required.
14. Collaborates with school personnel and other IEP team members in the selection of curriculum goals, specialized equipment, and other instructional materials, which provide the student with maximum learning opportunities.
15. Knowledgeable of and follow Section 504 and IDEA amendments.
16. Knowledgeable of special education processes such as eligibility, IEP, FBA, BIP, Alabama Development Standards for PreK students, etc.
17. Participates in the school improvement process and the implementation of school improvement plans, accreditation and accountability reports, and other required plans.
18. Assists schools with the transition of PreK students to Kindergarten.
19. Assists Elementary Curriculum Coordinator and Special Education Coordinator with Child Find for children 3 years old.
20. Assists families of children with disabilities of ages 3-5 to assess needed services.
21. Integrates OT, PT, and Speech services. 22. Manages PreK special education files. 23. Implements IEP goals.
24. Willingness to receive ABA/Discrete trial training.
25. Properly cares for equipment and material resources of the school system. 26. Uses effective collaboration skills to work as a productive team member.
27. Serves on school system committees, tasks forces, and representative groups as required.
28. Supervises extra-curricular activities as assigned.
29. Supervises morning, afternoon, detention, etc. as assigned.
30. Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local laws.
31. Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures.
32. Attends local meetings, workshops, and state meetings for professional development.
33. Performs other job-related duties as directed by the Principal and/or Special Education Coordinator.
SALARY: Based on the St. Clair County School System Salary Schedule
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 9 month
EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated according to board policy.
