API Developer

Position Summary

Nine Line Apparel is seeking a highly skilled and innovative API Developer to design, develop, maintain, and optimize integrations that support critical business operations across multiple platforms and systems. This role is responsible for building scalable APIs, creating custom integrations, automating workflows, and ensuring reliable data exchange between internal applications and third-party services.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in software development, systems integration, and API architecture, with experience connecting eCommerce, fulfillment, warehouse management, ERP, and cloud-based platforms. This individual will play a key role in improving operational efficiency, streamlining business processes, and supporting the continued growth of the organization through technology-driven solutions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain APIs and software integrations that support business-critical applications.
• Build custom applications, tools, and automation solutions to improve operational efficiency and data accuracy.
• Develop and maintain integrations between Shopify, ShipStation, SAP, Google Workspace, and other internal and external systems.
• Collaborate with stakeholders across departments to identify opportunities for process automation and system improvements.
• Troubleshoot and resolve integration issues, performance bottlenecks, and data synchronization errors.
• Monitor and optimize API performance, reliability, and security.
• Ensure data integrity and consistency across interconnected platforms.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, integration specifications, and workflow diagrams.
• Work closely with third-party vendors and technology partners to implement and support system integrations.
• Participate in code reviews and follow established software development and security best practices.
• Support database management, reporting initiatives, and data migration projects.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend solutions that enhance business operations and scalability.
• Assist in the design and implementation of scalable software architecture to support future growth.

Required Technical Qualifications

Programming Languages

Proficiency in one or more of the following:

• Python
• JavaScript
• Node.js
• Rust
• Java (preferred)

API & Integration Development

• Strong experience designing and developing RESTful APIs.
• Experience with API testing, debugging, and monitoring tools.
• Knowledge of authentication and security standards, including OAuth, API keys, and token-based authentication.
• Strong understanding of JSON, XML, HTTP/HTTPS, and web services.

Platforms & Systems

Experience integrating and supporting:

• Shopify APIs
• ShipStation APIs
• Google Workspace APIs (Google Sheets, Drive, etc.)
• SAP or similar ERP systems
• Warehouse Management Systems (WMS)
• Inventory and fulfillment platforms

Database Technologies

Experience with:

• PostgreSQL
• SQLite
• MySQL or other SQL-based databases

Development Tools

• Git and version control best practices
• CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes
• Cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience integrating ERP, warehouse management, and shipping systems.
• Knowledge of workflow automation and business process optimization.
• Experience supporting eCommerce, fulfillment, logistics, or retail operations.
• Familiarity with microservices architecture and scalable system design.
• Experience with event-driven integrations, webhooks, and asynchronous processing.
• Understanding of software security principles and data protection best practices.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field preferred.
• Equivalent professional experience will be considered in lieu of formal education.
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in software development, API development, systems integration, or related technical roles preferred.

Work Environment

This position primarily operates in a professional office environment. Occasional after-hours support may be required during system implementations, upgrades, deployments, or critical issue resolution. The role may also require collaboration with remote vendors, technology partners, and internal stakeholders across multiple departments.
