We are expanding our art department and seeking a versatile Apparel Graphic Designer / Color Separation Specialist to join our team. This role blends creative design with technical production expertise to produce original, print-ready artwork for screen-printed apparel in the travel and souvenir market.
You will collaborate closely with our Art Director, production and sales team to create compelling graphics, generate precise color separations, and ensure all artwork prints cleanly and consistently across various garments.
Responsibilities
- Design original, on-brand artwork for screen-printed apparel.
- Translate creative concepts into detailed, production-ready vector designs.
- Prepare and organize print-ready files, including spot-color separations, trap settings, and output layouts.
- Collaborate with art and production teams to meet creative, technical, and scheduling requirements.
- Ensure accuracy in color matching, sizing, registration, and layout across multiple garment types and substrates.
- Contribute to seasonal collections and destination-specific product development.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Requirements
- 5 - 7+ years of experience designing artwork specifically for screen-printed apparel.
- Advanced proficiency in Adobe Illustrator (vector art, separations, trapping) and Photoshop (mockups, retouching).
- Strong portfolio demonstrating excellence in composition, color theory, typography, and hand-illustration.
- Deep understanding of screen-printing processes, including mesh counts, ink types, underbases, and halftone techniques.
- Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and time-management skills.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to present ideas, receive feedback, and collaborate effectively.
- Positive, dependable, and self-motivated team player.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with travel, resort, or outdoor-lifestyle apparel brands.
- Hands-on expertise in manual and simulated process color separations.
- Familiarity with RIP software (e.g., Separation Studio, AccuRIP) and pre-press workflows.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, or
- Certification in Graphic Arts, Printing Technology, or Color Management.
