Application Engineer

Job Purpose: (A one-sentence summary of why the job exists.)

The Application Engineer is responsible for providing technical expertise in the selection, sizing, design evaluation, and configuration of instrumentation products to ensure full compliance with project requirements, industry standards, and process conditions.

The role ensures accurate engineering calculations-including sizing, wake frequency, vibration and stress analysis and prepares complete technical documentation such as data sheets, reports, and compliance statements.

The Application Engineer supports customers, sales, and project teams by delivering optimized, safe, and reliable instrumentation solutions that meet performance, material compatibility, and design code requirements.

Roles & Responsibilities:

1. Identify suitable instrumentation products (e.g., Thermowell, magnetic level gauges, manifold valves, transmitters) based on process conditions.

2. Review client specifications, data sheets, P&ID, and design codes to confirm correct selection.

3. Ensure product selection meets Aramco, Sabic, IEC, ASME, and other relevant standards.

4. Perform sizing calculations for instrumentation equipment (e.g., Thermowell dimensions, orifice sizing, level gauge float sizing).

5. Conduct wake frequency and vortex shedding calculations for Thermowell as per ASME PTC 19.3 TW.

6. Verify pressure drop, flow velocity, and structural integrity based on process conditions.

7. Evaluate vibration, frequency response, and flow-induced stresses on Thermowell, gauges, and instrumentation assemblies.

8. Ensure compliance with wake frequency ratio requirements, natural frequency limits, and stress criteria.

9. Recommend corrective actions (shortening Thermowell length, changing profile, adding support collars, etc.).

10. Prepare and finalize detailed data sheets for all instrumentation products based on project requirements.

11. Ensure all fields process parameters, design conditions, MOC, pressure class, connections, and accuracy are captured correctly.

12. Coordinate with client for data sheet approval.

13. Verify material compatibility with process fluid (corrosive, erosive, toxic, hydrocarbon, sour service, high temperature).

14. Ensure compliance with NACE MR0175/ISO 15156, Aramco SAMSS, and customer specifications.

15. Recommend alternative materials when required (e.g., SS316 → Monel, Hastelloy, Inconel).

16. Verify pressure-temperature ratings as per ASME B16.34, B16.5, and relevant codes.

17. Select correct flange class (150/300/600/900/1500), threaded or welded connections, and mounting configuration. Ensure proper instrument configuration: Process connections, Chamber orientation (for MLG), Housing/Enclosure type, Sensor accuracy/Range.

18. Ensure design meets applicable codes: ASME PTC 19.3 TW (Thermowell), IECEx/ATEX, (explosion-proof requirements)Aramco 175 Forms compliance

19. Verify products meet process requirements such as temperature, pressure, flow, density, viscosity, and installation constraints.

20. Analyse process fluid characteristics (density, viscosity, corrosively, abrasiveness)

21. Evaluate flow velocity impact on instruments & Perform vibration and turbulence checks at mounting locations.

22. Prepare engineering reports for sizing, wake frequency, and stress calculations.

23. Prepare deviation, compliance, and technical evaluation sheets (TBE).

24. Provide technical clarification to clients, EPCs, and internal teams.

25. Support sales team for technical proposals, quotes, and specification compliance.

26. Coordinate with manufacturing for engineering drawing approvals and BOM preparation.

Knowledge Skills and Experience:

· Qualifications: Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical, Instrumentation, E&C)

· Experience: Minimum 5-7years’ experience

· Skills: Product Knowledge, Technical Skills, Software & Digital Tools, Problem-Solving & Decision-Making Knowledge.
