Jarvis Lighting is a commercial LED lighting manufacturer and distributor specializing in high-performance luminaires, petroleum canopy lighting, industrial facilities, parking lots, warehouses, dealerships, and advanced Networked Lighting Controls (NLC/LLLC).
We are seeking a highly analytical, technically strong Application Support & Photometric Designer whose primary responsibility will be owning and elevating the quality of our photometric design work across the company.
This is not a drafting role. This is a performance-driven lighting design role.
Position Overview
The Application Support & Photometric Designer will serve as Jarvis Lighting’s internal expert on:
- Photometric modeling and analysis
- Code-compliant lighting design
- Lighting schedules and fixture selection
- Energy-optimized layouts
- Technical documentation and spec development
This person will directly impact project wins by delivering accurate, code-compliant, rebate-ready, and performance-optimized lighting layouts that help customers make confident decisions.
Primary ResponsibilitiesPhotometric Design Leadership (Primary Focus)
- Create detailed interior and exterior lighting layouts using AGi32, Visual, Dialux, or equivalent
- Develop high-quality photometric reports that are:
- Code compliant (IECC, ASHRAE 90.1, local amendments)
- Performance optimized (uniformity, footcandle targets, glare considerations)
- Energy efficient and rebate-aligned
- Review and improve competitor photometric submittals
- Develop standardized lighting templates for recurring project types (petroleum canopy, warehouse high bay, parking lot, etc.)
- Ensure accuracy of IES files and validate fixture performance assumptions
- Optimize layouts for:
- Light levels
- Uniformity ratios
- Energy density
- Sensor strategy integration
Lighting Application & Sales Support
- Collaborate directly with the sales team to develop project recommendations
- Participate in technical customer calls when deeper lighting expertise is required
- Translate project goals into performance-based lighting solutions
- Provide fixture recommendations and lighting schedules
- Support ESCO and rebate-driven projects
- Help integrate Networked Lighting Controls (NLC/LLLC) strategies into layouts
Code Compliance & Technical Integrity
- Ensure all layouts meet local and national energy codes
- Understand lighting power density (LPD) calculations
- Ensure projects are structured to qualify for rebates where applicable
- Maintain internal standards for layout quality and documentation consistency
Custom Product & Technical Documentation
When projects require modified or custom fixtures:
- Create professional specification sheets
- Develop clear technical documentation summarizing:
- Modifications
- Performance changes
- Mounting configurations
- Collaborate with product development and operations teams
- Use graphic design skills (Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, or similar) to produce clean, branded technical documents
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years experience in commercial lighting design or photometric modeling
- Strong proficiency in AGi32, Visual, Dialux, or similar
- Deep understanding of IES files and photometric calculations
- Knowledge of IECC, ASHRAE 90.1, and commercial lighting energy codes
- Ability to interpret construction drawings and site plans
- Strong communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in industrial, petroleum canopy, or large-scale exterior lighting projects
- Experience with Networked Lighting Controls (NLC / LLLC)
- Experience supporting ESCO or rebate-based projects
- Graphic design capability for professional spec sheet creation
- Basic understanding of electrical systems and load considerations
