Application Support Specialist (Engineering Applications)

Astrolab is looking for an Application Support Engineer to provide administration, support, and optimization of critical engineering and enterprise applications used across the organization. This role provides technical support for design, simulation, and product lifecycle management (PLM) platforms while ensuring system reliability, licensing availability, and compliance with aerospace regulatory requirements.
The ideal candidate has 3–5 years of experience supporting engineering applications within an aerospace or manufacturing environment, along with familiarity with IT service management processes and compliance frameworks such as EAR and ITAR.


What you'll do:


Engineering Application Support
  • Provide day-to-day support for engineering applications including Siemens NX, Teamcenter, MATLAB (MathWorks), and Altium
  • Troubleshoot application issues, performance problems, and integration challenges affecting engineering teams
  • Coordinate with engineering users to resolve software defects, configuration issues, and workflow problems
  • Maintain application uptime and performance to support design, simulation, and manufacturing processes
License Server Administration
  • Administer and maintain software license servers for engineering tools
  • Monitor license utilization and availability to ensure engineering teams have uninterrupted access
  • Work with vendors to troubleshoot licensing issues and manage renewals
Application Lifecycle & Maintenance
  • Install, configure, patch, and upgrade engineering applications and supporting infrastructure
  • Maintain documentation for system configurations, troubleshooting procedures, and operational processes
  • Support integration between engineering tools and enterprise platforms when applicable
IT Service Management (ITSM)
  • Manage support requests and incidents through the organization’s IT Service Management platform
  • Follow established incident, change, and problem management processes
  • Maintain service-level agreements (SLAs) and ensure timely resolution of support tickets
  • Contribute to knowledge base documentation and operational playbooks
Compliance & Security
  • Ensure engineering applications and data handling align with Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) requirements
  • Support secure handling of controlled technical data and ensure proper system access controls
  • Assist with compliance audits and documentation as needed

What you'll bring:


Required
  • 3–5 years of experience supporting engineering or enterprise applications in an aerospace, defense, or advanced manufacturing environment
  • Experience supporting:
    • Siemens NX or similar tools
    • Teamcenter (PLM) or similar tools
    • MATLAB / MathWorks
    • Altium
  • Experience administering software license servers.
  • Familiarity with IT Service Management (ITSM) processes (incident, change, problem management).
  • Understanding of EAR and ITAR compliance requirements.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work directly with engineering teams to resolve technical issues.
Preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft Intune for device and application management.
  • Experience supporting Oracle NetSuite or other ERP systems.
  • Familiarity with engineering computing environments, CAD infrastructure, or PLM systems.
  • Knowledge of scripting or automation for application support tasks.
  • Regulatory compliance awareness.
  • Cross-functional communication.
  • Documentation and operational rigor.
