Apprentice CNC Machinist

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Apprentice CNC Machinist to join our team at Hillend Engineering. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to begin a career in precision engineering and manufacturing. You will gain hands-on experience while working alongside skilled machinists and engineers, learning how to operate and program CNC machinery to produce high-quality Refuse Collection Vehicles.

Hillend Engineering are a well-established organisation operating for over 50 years designing and producing RCVs for the UK & Ireland, Europe and beyond. If you are interested in becoming part of a diverse and successful manufacturing company this may be the opportunity for you!

The course is delivered by Forth Valley College over 4 years on a day release basis and allows the successful candidate to gain a HNC in Engineering.

When you are not at college, you will be based within our machine shop where you will learn all aspects of CNC machining from start to finish. This will include setting up and operating CNC milling and turning machines, reading and interpreting engineering drawings, selecting and measuring tooling and understanding materials and machining processes. You will also be involved in quality inspection, identifying and resolving machining issues and developing your skills in CNC programming.

What do you need?

• Have achieved National 5 Level Grade in Maths, English and a technical subject.
• Be motivated to achieve qualifications whilst gaining practical experience.
• Must have a determined, enthusiastic 'can do' attitude, coupled with a willingness to learn.
• A genuine interest in engineering and manufacturing
• Good attention to detail and a focus on accuracy
• Basic maths skills (for measurements, calculations and tolerances)
• Ability to follow instructions and work from technical drawings
• Good problem-solving skills
• Good timekeeping and reliability
• Preferably aged between 16 - 19 due to funding, other ages will be considered
