Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated Apprentice HGV Fitter to join our team. This paid apprenticeship offers a valuable opportunity to develop essential skills in vehicle maintenance and repair, specialising in heavy goods vehicles. The role involves working closely with experienced technicians to gain practical knowledge in mechanical and electrical systems, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of commercial vehicles. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a keen interest in engineering, possess strong problem-solving abilities, and be eager to learn within a supportive environment.
Duties
- Assist with the fabrication, assembly, and repair of heavy goods vehicles, including lorries and specialised equipment
- Support with electrical wiring, soldering, and interpreting schematics for vehicle systems
- Use hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and other machinery to carry out maintenance tasks
- Conduct routine inspections and troubleshoot mechanical or electrical faults on vehicles such as excavators and forklifts
- Participate in equipment repair activities, ensuring compliance with safety standards
- Assist with heavy lifting and manoeuvring of vehicle components or machinery as required
- Provide excellent customer service by supporting the team in delivering high-quality repairs and maintenance
Qualifications
- Basic understanding of mechanical systems or electrical experience is desirable but not essential; a strong willingness to learn is required
- Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and equipment repair techniques preferred
- Experience working with heavy machinery such as excavators or forklifts is a plus
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and effectively
- Strong organisational skills with attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills and a proactive attitude towards learning new skills
- Physical fitness suitable for manual tasks and working in a workshop environment

Pay: £16,500.00-£20,000.00 per year
