The Merit Apprenticeship Alliance is recruiting for Ironworker Apprentices

The Merit Apprenticeship Alliance will provide you with on-the-job training (OJT) (through employment with our contractors) and classroom training in the Ironworker trade (the cost of training is paid from the benefit fund).

Basic knowledge of materials, methods and tools of construction are helpful. Welding experience a plus. 

Through a combination of on-the-job training and related instruction, the apprentice will learn how to:

  • Operate hand and power tools involved in rigging, cabling, bolting, reinforcing steel, welding and a variety of other equipment.
  • Install reinforcing bars and steel mesh to strengthen concrete structures and roadways
  • Assemble and install fabricated structural metal products for industrial, commercial, and large residential buildings
  • Weld and bolt structural steel for buildings and bridges
  • Construct and install fencing, guard rails and protective structures
  • Rig heavy machinery & equipment for hoisting
  • Construct window wall and curtain wall exteriors

· Sounds ok, but what is the pay?

· On prevailing wage projects (sometimes known as public work), first term apprentices will earn between $20 and $23 per hour. All wages will increase every 6-12 months.

· Most projects pay PREVAILING WAGE so the dollar per hour changes depending on the project and where you work. On private projects (during the slow season) first term apprentices will earn at least $20 per hour.

· We seldom work weekends; most jobs are Monday through Friday. Jobs are located in your region, but not typically accessible by public transportation. Traveling to different jobsites is required so you MUST have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license. Travel accommodations are reimbursed if worksites are more than 1 hour from your home.

· · can provide their own reliable transportation to and from jobs sites and all classroom training (related instruction).

· · is willing to travel “out of town” for related instruction and employment assignments (travel expenses are paid).

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $23.00 per hour
