Job Overview
This remote contract role is ideal for an entry-level designer or recent graduate with 1-5 years of experience in Revit, We are seeking a knowledgable designer with residential design experience to work on recurring projects in coastal North Carolina. The ideal candidate can take hand-drawn sketches and notes and translate them into functional, code-compliant house layouts in Revit. This role goes beyond drafting, requiring strong design skills, problem-solving ability, and the knowledge to research and apply North Carolina building codes to the plans as needed.
Each project will include reviews and redlines, with revisions required throughout the design process. Once approved, the final deliverable will be a permit-ready construction set, including (but not limited to) foundation plan, floor plans, exterior elevations, wall sections, roof plan, and lighting and electrical plans. All drawings must include code-compliant notes and details necessary for construction.
A Revit project with templates, common details, and some BIM objects will be provided along with example sets to follow; however, the designer must be able to create or source additional content as needed per project.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate through review, redlines, and revisions during the design and documentation process.
- Translate hand-drawn sketches, notes, and program requirements into functional layouts in Revit.
- Design and model complete residential homes, from foundation plans through roof plans.
- Research and apply applicable North Carolina building code requirements throughout the design and documentation process.
- Produce permit-ready construction sets, including code-compliant details, annotations, window and door tags, and interior elevations.
- Prepare complete sheet notes for each CD set, including general construction notes, NC residential code requirements, and project-specific information.
- Develop efficient cabinet and appliance layouts using standard U.S. dimensions when needed.
- Properly manage Revit files using design options and phases, ensuring all elements are accurately modeled, well-organized, and the model is structured for easy sharing and collaboration.
- Assist with renovation projects using existing Revit models or survey data to create accurate existing conditions.
- Read and apply redlines/revisions accurately and promptly.
- Communicate effectively via phone, email, and video calls for reviews and clarifications.
Qualifications
- 1-5 years experience working in Revit
- Proven experience in architectural drafting, modeling, and design using Revit (required); experience with Enscape, SketchUp Pro, Photoshop, and Adobe Acrobat is a bonus.
- Strong understanding of U.S. residential construction standards and ability to research and apply North Carolina building codes.
- Demonstrated ability to design functional, code-compliant layouts that meet a design brief and flow naturally.
- Experience producing high-quality, permit-ready construction documents.
- Proficiency in Revit, including effective use of design options, phases, worksets, and families
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to ask thoughtful code- and constructability-based questions.
- Background or experience in interior design or structural engineering is a plus.
- Detail-oriented and organized, able to work independently on multiple projects with deadlines, deliver accurate, high-quality drawings, and remain responsive while working remotely with flexible hours.
