Job Summary: The Architecture/Event Designer is a creative and technical professional responsible for conceptualizing, developing, and executing the spatial and visual design for a range of projects, with a special focus on immersive events, exhibitions, temporary installations, and activations. This role blends architectural principles of space planning, technical drawing, and material specification with the experiential focus of event design to create unique, functional, and visually impactful environments.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conceptual Design & Visualization
- Concept Development: Generate innovative, site-specific design concepts for events (e.g., conferences, exhibitions, corporate launches, cultural festivals) that integrate architectural, interior, and experiential elements.
- Visual Communication: Develop and present design proposals using a variety of tools, including mood boards, hand sketches, 2D floor plans, 3D models, and high-quality renderings.
- Narrative & Flow: Design layouts that optimize guest flow, incorporate a clear visual narrative, and maximize the overall user experience.
2. Technical Design & Documentation
- Detailed Drawings: Produce accurate and detailed architectural drawings, plans, elevations, sections, and construction documentation using CAD and BIM software.
- Material Specification: Select and specify appropriate materials, furniture, décor, lighting, and custom fabrication elements, considering durability, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability.
- Code Compliance: Ensure all designs comply with relevant local building codes, safety regulations, accessibility standards, and structural feasibility, especially for temporary structures.
- Vendor Coordination: Prepare and issue technical drawings and specifications for bidding and fabrication to contractors, vendors, and production teams.
3. Project Management & Execution
- Budget & Timeline Management: Track and manage design budgets and project schedules to ensure deliverables are met on time and within financial constraints.
- Coordination: Collaborate closely with internal teams (e.g., production, marketing) and external partners (e.g., engineers, lighting designers, audio-visual technicians) to integrate all technical systems.
- On-Site Supervision: Oversee the installation, build-out, and breakdown of event designs, ensuring the final execution aligns perfectly with the design intent and quality standards.
- Problem Solving: Proactively identify and resolve technical, logistical, or aesthetic challenges that arise during the design, fabrication, or on-site installation phases.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture, Interior Architecture, Exhibition Design, or a related field.
- Experience: Proven professional experience (typically 3+ years) in Architectural Design, Exhibition Design, or Event/Experiential Design, with a strong portfolio of executed projects.
- Technical Proficiency: Mastery of industry-standard software:
- CAD/BIM: AutoCAD, Revit, ArchiCAD
- 3D Modeling/Rendering: SketchUp, Rhino, 3ds Max, V-Ray, Lumion, or similar.
- Design Expertise:
- Excellent spatial reasoning, proportion, and technical detailing skills.
- Deep understanding of lighting, material science, furniture design, and set fabrication.
- Strong creative vision and attention to detail.
- Soft Skills:
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills to articulate complex design ideas to non-designers (clients, stakeholders).
- Strong project management, organizational, and time-management abilities.
- Adaptability, resilience, and the ability to work effectively under tight deadlines and high-pressure event environments.
